RAMADI, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- Two people on Sunday were killed and ten more injured in two bomb explosions in Ramadi, central Iraq, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

The two explosions took place within minutes near a school in Ramadi. While police officers were gathering at the site of the first blast, a bomb attached to a police vehicle exploded.

Two police officers were killed as well as six law agents and four civilians injured. The wounded are in stable condition. The target of the explosions was a police patrol in the area.

Ramadi is located in Anbar province which covers the western desert area of Iraq. Violence in Anbar escalated after tribal chiefs rose up against extremists in September 2006.

On Monday, two police officers were killed by unknown gunmen near a security checkpoint in western Mogul, northern Iraq. The attackers opened fire on the policemen using guns with silencers.

Meanwhile in southern Iraq, a U.S. vehicle patrol was damaged as an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP) was remotely detonated in Thi-Qar province. The attack targeted a U.S. motorcade.

The attack took place on the road linking between al-Masouriya region and Imam Ali airbase, southern Nassiriya. The road was closed for two hours as two more EFP bombs were located and defused in the nearby area as well.
