Going To Rayong

Going to a Rayong beach for a few days. Was looking forward to it, but a bit surprised that Lonely Planet slates the town and coast around there? Anyone other opinions out there on where and what to do?

Where are you coming from? How are you getting there? If you have your own ride, there's lots of places to check out that are OK. Or, try Samet?

LP really focuses on backpackers. Rayong for sure is industrial, but there are some nice beaches and resorts. We go to Ban Chang on a regular basis.

Well good to hear that there are some nice beaches and resorts. We're going by car from Bangkok, staying at a friend's house there. The Thai verdict is that it's a pretty nice area, that's why I was surprised at LP.

What we have enjoyed is just driving around and finding these cool little places here and there. If you have a car, you can do that for sure. There are several near Ban Chang...Phla, Phayun, etc. We like the restaurant at Ton Son (?) resort on Phayun. Really nice setting with tables right on the sand...

Here's a bit of more info:

The restaurant name is Rom Son, anyone living in the area will know it.

Look in the Eastern Thailand Forum for restaurants around Rayong and for the beaches, especially the Navy Beach at Sattahip.

Rayong beach is a great beach especially for lovers of beaches as it is mainly created for them only. It has breathtaking views, juicy fruits, scented orchards, yummy food and breathtaking adventures that make Rayong a luring destination. The tropical paradise is also a part of a National Park, which adds to its attraction.
