April 9, 201115 yr America's sons have a lot in common with Thailand's daughters. Someone else sells their asses cheap and there's huge money being made around that fact. Mr. "Conservative". I'm a person of conservative habits. And though I can't find the post you're referring to I do remember saying "If a Conservative were still a Conservative I would be a Conservative. Conservatives are no longer Conservatives sadly. They no longer stand for fiscal responsibility and not meddling in the affairs of other nations. Now they are warmongers and that I cannot abide. Liberals don't seem to be a helluva lot different in that regard so color me "non-aligned".
April 9, 201115 yr Just to jog your memory, you said that all your friends consider you very Conservative and I guessed that you must be hanging out with Nancy Polosi and Michael Moore.
April 9, 201115 yr Just to jog your memory, you said that all your friends consider you very Conservative and I guessed that you must be hanging out with Nancy Polosi and Michael Moore. I couldn't find it before, but now I have. This is what i said and it's all true. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/450707-israeli-family-of-five-killed-by-palestinian-militants-in-west-bank-attack/page__view__findpost__p__4279171
April 9, 201115 yr I'm pretty conservative and most of the people that know me think I'm waaay conservative. Thats it.
April 9, 201115 yr ...and if you have ever held down a job, working for somebody else, you have done the same thing. We're all prostitutes in some way. I suppose one could make that argument if they lived in a world devoid of morality or ethics or compassion or free will. I guess I've been lucky so far and haven't had to. Nonsense, don't belittle yourself. Luck has nothing to do with it. You simply have to close your eyes to reality. It wasn't always so. I was involved in Operation Desert Sortie for about 6 months which involved being the Chief Mate working on arms carrying ships. I closed my eyes to reality by justifying it with the argument that I was only bringing arms home. Had nothing to with war but the end of war. Still, even 20 years ago I was making $1,500 a day having nothing to do with war. Well, it's all a lie we tell ourselves isn't it? We justify our "realities". How many pensions are you collecting for being in the business of killing people? Then your conscience must be as clear as mine.
April 9, 201115 yr Doesn't really matter, as more and more national military forces are turning to fill out their ranks with private "security forces" and other assorted soldier-of-fortune outfits. America's sons have a lot in common with Thailand's daughters. Someone else sells their asses cheap and there's huge money being made around that fact. ...and if you have ever held down a job, working for somebody else, you have done the same thing. We're all prostitutes in some way. I suppose one could make that argument if they lived in a world devoid of morality or ethics or compassion or free will. I guess I've been lucky so far and haven't had to. I really think it is a matter of ugly rather than morals. I started selling it when I was 16. First one was an actress in Toronto. Next was my dad's boss's wife. Funny thing two of the ladies left me money in their wills when they passed on. Lets face it most young men have some to spare. If a good looking older woman offers you some financial assistance for companionship, what's the harm? Morals? Naw. I think ugly and stuffy.

Maybe Socrates was wrong, Maybe the unexamined life IS worth living, but personally I tend to doubt it. Anyhow, while my conscience may not be as clear as yours, I've atoned as best I can. I like you Mark and think you're a bright guy, that's why I give you more credit than to believe the only morality is that which is layed down by the Southern Baptist Church.
April 9, 201115 yr I was only making the point I don't think prostitution is immoral. I do think war is immoral. Just wars are few and far in between and rarely agreed just by both sides.
April 9, 201115 yr depends? Ask chucky...he knows. His nick is chuckd. Please stop the constant taunts and insults before the mods crackdown on OTB once again. I'm beginning to sort of like it UG. :jap: It makes me feel superior to know harcourt has a passion for personally trying to antagonize me. It also comforts me to know that, somewhere in Kiwi land, there is a houswife that is not getting her lamb chops cut precisely right due to his obsession with chasing me around the forum. I stopped acting like he does when I completed the 7th grade. For some, it takes a little longer. I'm glad you like it, chucky. I'm always happy to please. Although it must be nice for you to feel superior, and gain comfort, I suggest you stop deluding yourself; You think I am stalking you...I think there's a phsychological term for that particular type of delusion, although I couldn't say if it is usual for it to accompany senility. April 10, 201115 yr The very best way to keep from having moderators crack down on posters is to keep from getting too personal with other posters. Opinions and disagreement make the forum interesting. Bickering, flaming, name calling don't add anything. Staying on topic is a good idea as well, although I must admit that in OTB it's sometimes hard to figure out just exactly what the topic is. By the way, I am not sure psychological disorder your referring to--Paranoia or maybe Delusions of Granduer. Paranoia is usually usually accompanied by Delusions of Persecution.
April 10, 201115 yr I do think war is immoral. War isn't immoral. It's very very big business.....as in: only business.
April 10, 201115 yr I do think war is immoral. War isn't immoral. It's very very big business.....as in: only business. Did you see Apocalypse Now? For me, the movie was crap except for the scene where the General serves lunch. The guy who played the General captured the character perfectly. The General understood the war completely and kept his emotional distance by living in and acting like he was still in Alabama. My father's company made big bucks on the Vietnam war. He made transmissions for Bell Helicopter. I was a popular guy in Vietnam because if you had a transmission problem I could solve it. I could get any part you needed almost immediately and I had a hot line to the States to my dad's office for questions. So I realized that what I saw daily (killing and mayhem) was contributing the success of Father Burns who was building a new wing on the grade school at St. Paul's grade school in Detroit. Catholics give a percent of their wages to the church, if you didn't know. At least the rich Catholics I knew did. More helicopters; more money in the collection basket. It was this realization that took my life away from the military industrial complex when I retured to civilian life. I went back to college and got a job teaching at a school for the blind. I made the connection and dropped out. Is war all about big business? A strong case can be made that was what caused WW I. Iraq and Afghanastan? Maybe. WW II, I don't think so unless WW II was actually caused by WW I.

Logistics operations in support of the two you name, those being military, mine being military/paramilitary/civilian.
