Got Mail From Thai Vw Importer

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have been playing with the idea of buying a Vw Golf GTI, but I am afraid of the degrading of fuel in general here in LOS.

Therefore I contacted Vw Germany and asked what fuel would be good for the car !

They contacted their Thai Vw importer and their answer is here :

Thank you for your inquiry.

Volkswagen petrol vehicles sold officially by the authorised importer; Thai

Yarnyon Co.,Ltd., can be run on E10 gasohol (maximun 10% ethanol).

The highest octane available is preferable; gasohol 95 or Shell's V-power

gasohol.

A Thai Yarnyon dealer network can be found at

Yours Sincerely,

Customer Relations

Yes, the VW Golf GTi will run without problems with 95 Gasohol.

I have driven the new GTi for about 1 year and had no problems at all, even though I had the engine tuned by the "official" AUDI / VW Tuner ABT to about 260 HP and the car ran smoothly (including a day on the race track).

So I would not expect any problems with the car here in Thailand.

as i recall ABT 260 hp requires 98 octane to produce 260 hp, so expect the knocking sensor to pull it down to approx 240 hp while running 95. E10 should not be a problem with VW/Audi since 2008

Sounds good !

Are you running Shell V-Power or any brand at 95 octane ? - any problems finding the right fuel ?

Have you thought about adding octane booster to the petrol ?

Did you buy the car with the offical dealer or gray import ?

What did you pay for yur new car ?

Thanks for any info !

I would highly recommend using Shell V-Power for maximum power output. Octane boosters will raise the EGT causing the engine to run hot.

Got a gti MYSELF, AN 06. I've asked around the place for fuel recommendation once the unleaded 95 was removed. All are saying V-power 95. Has anyone tried the normal gasohol 95? Was there any significant differences between the two fuels?

Unleaded 95 is not removed.. It is still available at some Caltex stations.
