Transport Co: Enough buses for everyone leaving Bangkok

BANGKOK, 11 April 2011 (NNT)-The President of the Transport Company Limited, Mr. Wuttichart Kalayanamitr, has confirmed there are enough bus services to accommodate a large number of people leaving Bangkok to all parts of the nation.

The bus terminal recorded a whopping number of 700,000 people departing for their home towns yesterday. Mr. Wuttichart advised travelers to book seats in advance for their own convenience. He also warned of possible service delays due to the traffic and the weather.

The President said he had discussed with co-bus companies about overpriced tickets and instructed them to sell the tickets at a price specified by the Transport Company. Those found to have sold the tickets at exaggerated prices will be prosecuted. Passengers can call the company’s hotline 1490 or the Land Transport’s hotline 1584.

Free Train Service Increased for Songkran

The State Railway of Thailand has expanded its free train service for Songkran festival.

With more than 38 additional trains, it is able to accommodate more than 120,000 passengers a day.

Head of the State Railway of Thailand's Public Relations Office, Nualchan Wongchan, disclosed that the railway authority has increased railcars to accommodate a large number of revelers making trips during Songkran festival.

Three to four third-class free carriages will be added to each existing route and 38 more trips will be dedicated to serve passengers, particularly for the northern and northeastern lines.

With the increased train accommodation, it is expected that more than 250 trains will depart from the Hua Lamphong station, carrying a total of more than 120,000 people each day to ensure that all passengers are able to reach their destinations.

Normal train services have resumed in the southern provinces since April 8, following the devastating floods that crippled all rail services.

The public can obtain free train tickets at Hua Lamphong railway station and seek further information via the 24-hour hotline at 1690.
