I got mine from BA car rental just after the garage after the Tesco turn in on the left as you enter Nathon from Maenam way. He has a few there for rent.

A lot of places don't like you actually taking them off road but this guy does it himself so it isn't a problem. he also just has a break it you fix it policy unlike some other shops who will hit you for a ridiculous amount for the most trivial damage. :D

Lots of fun to be had :D;)

i used to go to the motocross track near the airport, but you would need a real motocross bike for that as it is a supercross track and alot of jumps but the track is a bit small, they normally go up there on sat/sun about 4pm and is free to use,the guys in chaweng shop own it.A couple of years ago i raced there and was good fun.

motocross track near the airport

Whereabouts near the airport ? :)

Used to be into trials myself, i prefered it slow. Even snails pace might be ambitious these days.

Track is a bit hard to explain but go round the back of airport pass the entry to airport(departures)coming from chaweng, then go straight and you come to a bend in the road, right on that bend there is a dirt track go down there and you will come to a sliding metal gate its in there.

You would have loved the route I took the other day. Like you I prefer the slow method as I got sick of falling off going fast :D

The XR proved a very good bike at slow speed, lots of low down torque to play with and there were some very steep hills :o

Be good to get out, tho wouldn't fancy a fall now

My missus says when she was a teenager (25 yrs or so ago) they all used to go scrambling up on tracks by where the crocodile farm is now.

also where is the best spot to pick up some dirt bike gear in samui like helmets etc, and roughly how much a dirt bike helmet will set me back.

Ohms is about the best place to get bike gear here on Samui. If he hasn't got what you want he will order it from BKK for you. :D
