the other day while in swensen's in Esplanade Ratchada noticed there is a indoor skate park.. looks pretty good and indoor is a bonus.. thinking of getting my board out just wonder if anyone has been there?? is it free?? thanks

Esplanade Ratachada has one, and Imperial Square on Ladproa has one. Though Esplanade on Ratachada, you tend to run into more Thai celebrities more often there.

The park in Esplanad is supposed to be ok, I've been told the ramps are a bit small, and the transitions aren't too smooth. It costs 90BHT to ride there, but it's the best you can do here in BKK. I plan on going soon, I love skateboarding (14 yr. skater). My boss has been there, he said it was ok, but he got injured on a transition. I have heard they're building a concrete skatepark in Ratchada as well though.

It's worth a shot though, it's nice to see a park in BKK!!!!!!

What kinds of structures do they have?

I hope its more of a skatepark than the so called one in the queens park by emporium.

Do they have a mini half? If so I will be buying a new board here :)

I haven't been on a skateboard in more than 10 years but I've been thinking of getting one too just for the sake of doing something other than hiding in my room. Preduce skateboards has a shop right next to the park. Here's a flickr album that Warren from HK posted from the park in question:

The Ramp Skatepark BKK

The course looks like a mix of street and some ramps, I don't remember a mini, but I think there was a quarter pipe there. Either which way, it looks like a fun place to cruise around at!! I think the price of a complete setup here in Asia is about double the price of the states, so about 6,000 BHT for a no-name complete, and I don't know how much for a name brand one. I'm happy to see some people talking about it here, it would be awesome if we could put together a little skate community here in BKK!

I just checked out the photos from Flikr, and they have a pool setup there. Doesn't look too deep though, but nice!

I'll gladly pay 90 baht to skate that; now to get a board

wow. I didn't realize a new setup would cost that much. I'll have to take a look at the budget and see if I can swing it. But yeah, it would be cool to get together and skate sometimes. Like I said I haven't been on a board in forever so tech stuff is definitely out for me but carving around in the little bowl looks like fun.

Yeah, I've been told they have shop boards you can use at first, so there's a way to skate and save money for a deck! I just don't know what would happen if you broke a shop deck.......

Either way, when I hit the place up I'll send you guys a message, and maybe we can meet up and have a session together!

Sounds about my speed; pm when you are planning to go if you need some company

Good thread guys= I live in Bkk and have skated the 4 'parks' that i know of here=

I skate a bit here n there but only ollies n such lost the tech years ago- love to meet ya guys n skate sometime-

1. Indoor Esplenade= small tight transition park, slick masonite surface- small park and not the best shape-

But OK and during the week days it's empty, has Aircon, food n beer not far away...

2. Queens park= BTS PhromPong, by Emporium= one little bank and a few rails, a box, hot as hell with no shade- kinda weak but fun for a minute.

3. Rama 8 bridge= under the bridge on both sides of the river, some steps, big n small, some marble type benches, steel rails and boxes.

I like the big plaza park on the west side of the river, sometimes kicked out but some nice little ledges etc-

4. Pink Park- under Ekamai and Phetchaburi Rd. overpass, everything is painted pink in this park so it's easy to spot. a quarter pipe, mini half, funbox,

several metal rails- a bit dusty but shaded and kind of a cool park-

Rama 8 and Pink are my favorites- during the day they are empty and not too hot in the shade, depends what you like to skate i guess...

gettin old fat n lazy so let me know if you guys go skating~

Will do. I've been here for two weeks now and I don't know anyone and can't talk to anyone so I'll certainly be looking for some company and could kill for some conversation about now. It looks like I will have to take the bus to Esplanade....that'll be a new experience for me. LOL

Awesome!!!! Back in the day I used to skate for hours every day for about 14 years, but then I busted up my foot, and now I can't do what I used to, but I still just have fun!!! I've been in BKK for a little more than a year now, and I'm happy as hell to find some fellow skaters here!!!!! I got a buddy at work who skates as well, but he just tore two knee ligaments and cracked his knee cap at Esplanade, so he's out for a few weeks, but I'm hoping in a week or two to get over there. I live right by there, and I work in the evenings, so will anyone be able to meet up in the day time, during the week?

I happened to end up at Esplanade tonight after dinner. I was at Swensen's and realized I could see the skatepark through the glass windows in the back of the shop. It didn't look too busy considering the time and the fact that it was a Sunday night. Looks like fun. I am free pretty much anytime. I haven't been in town long enough to form any obligations yet. LOL

This thread has go me thinking -- I skated as a kid for about 6 years from the age of 9. Used to love it. It was that long ago boards used to be much wider than now and street skating was just being born.

What is condition of the mini half like at pink park ?

I'm in the same boat. I started skating in 3rd grade and did so off and on until high school. I'm 33 now. So I did most of my skating way before it got techie. Even when it did me and my friend spent most of our time jumping launch ramps in front of his house rather than out skating street. Flailing down short steps and gaps and mostly just ending up with scrapes and bruises got old quick.

Now I just need something to do...something active. Picking up a skateboard seems like a natural choice since it's something I remember fondly. I'm going to make a trip back to the Esplanade tomorrow to look into getting a board. I also need to get some passport photos taken if anyone knows of a place in that area. I'm prepping for my first visa run. Blah.

I'm wondering if we shouldn't start up a meetup group or something like that so we can better organize a skate time. I can't help but wonder if otherwise we won't just visit this thread and dream without ever skating. LOL

Agreed, especially if I can rent a semi descent board. Judging from the prices I would prefer to wait till I get back to the states to buy a board, but would love to hit the park!!

The mini half at pink park was a little rough last time i was there, masonite failing in the transitions- maybe they've fixed it==

I also heard there is a half pipe at the convention center park? not sure where that is but it's an MRT stop... anyone have info??

Just had a rough motorbike accident down south, nothing broken but really bruised- so i'm out of it for a month maybe- bruised ribs n kidney...

I'll be very ready to skate when i'm healed though- sittin at home watching movies (and skate vids) for a few weeks will do the trick-

Keep the thread going guys and i'll meet ya anytime when I've healed up-

Boards are pricey here but the guys from Preduce are really cool- they have a cool team and great video= look for Sambai @ PREDUCE.com some minor site issues there but usually it works--

or on youtube- you can download their vids from preduce.com too-

if you wanted to go cheap like 4000-5000 baht you can but for bit extra you can get exactly what you want if your going to keep skateboarding then it would be worth spending the bit extra... i went and used a rental board before to see if i could still do it but the board they rent there are shit only 50 baht so sort of expected... so the next day i got my own board but would be worth renting a board first just to try before you go out spending on a brand new board..

Just reading through this the park looks nice.

You guys mentioned buying a set-up in Bangkok.

I have a new set-up for sale if anyones interested. The deck I bought in Bangkok, is a nice wide double-kick Element Bam. Indy trucks imported from the US along with wheels and bulldog bearings. Unscratched, more or less brand new. Only thing it needs is grip-tape. 3.5k.

I meant to get back into the skate scene myself, but getting a bit long in the tooth now. PM if anyones interested in checking it out.

GFL.

Just stumbled across this thread.

I haven't skated for ages but would be keen if there are a bunch of guys going. I am 37 and haven't skated for 10 yrs or so now but it's just like riding a bike, right?!

I'll need to get a deck but would be keen to hit one of the parks (esplanade?) if anyone else is.

I was looking around this forum to update myself on BKK before my trip over, and I stumbled across this thread.

Wow 6k baht for a no-name?? That's crazy!

I will be heading over to BKK on the 2/2/2013, if you guys are interested in parts (sans decks) from http://spitfireskate.com, drop me a PM.
