April 26, 201115 yr Hello, I'm one of those borderline candidates with XY as first language. Some non-English teaching experience, a British degree but no TEFL diploma. The salary is secondary, I'm bored rather than in need of an income. the May deadline is approaching and I was wondering... would you apply to some desperate schools and jump right in (provided one gets hired)? or would you complete a TEFL program if the latter, should it be a classroom one or would this American online course be a valid alternative? https://americantesol.com/tesol-register.html?reloaded=true Thanks for reading and please say something if you got a minute Chris
April 27, 201115 yr My experience is that schools accept both online and class based TEFL's. If you have 4 weeks then attend. If not do it online or via distance learning essay submission. TEFL Scotland is creditable. Try them. If you are feeling flush then try a CELTA 4 week course. Harder but rewarding. If you just want a job apply and start working. Schools are hiring right now! Do the TEFL later if it suits you better. Go luck. Regards - John.

Thanks, John - much appreciated! I followed your advice. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Got 2 responses, one offering grammar only classes. Not sure about that - I do consider grammar the least fun aspect of the learning experience... Soon after I was asked if I could teach Math? FYI, I'm a bottom feeder, who would be glad to get any job (not native, no CELTA obviously) but with a BA. Regards, Chris
