Had this in my office today, about half a meter from where my bare feet had been for about an hour previous.

The main body is about 8 centimeters. The antennae and other protrusions made it about triple that in length when straightened out.

It had fat pincers(sorry no picture) under it's head, like a Dakab (Scolopendra). The Thais in my house considered it highly dangerous, and with three toddlers in the house here, the critter was persuaded to leave the mortal plain. :(

That's not an insect! It's an Myriapod nor it does look like a Scolopendra to me. The body doesn't have enough segments.

Scolopendra however most certainly are not deadly, but can inflict a highly painful bite.

I have never seen one like that before though if it is a centipede. What a beautiful creature.

It's a shame people kill them through misinformation. When your house is overrun my mice you'll know why...

In rural areas they eat them by encasing them in mud and baking them. They then remove the mud which at the same time removes the shell to reveal the flesh underneath which is said to be rather like prawn meat in taste and texture.

Like I said, great bait.

Thanks for the replies and links.

Here is a look at the pincers. I got this from the Thaibugs site. My link I'm assuming this guy delivers a nasty bite.

definitely a Scutigerids (Chilopoda)
