Finally went past sweeny Todds on a morning when they were open :o

Only joking before you start! :ermm:

Being the hungry faced farang that I am I opted for the Mega breakfast. I have to say it hit the spot and top marks to them. The bacon had the fat on it which I like as I think it gives it more taste and plenty of everything else as well. It also came with a man sized mug of coffee rather than your piddling little cup of coffee ;) It is now my official best breakfast on the island till I find a better one. Again top marks to the ladies this morning they started my day off a treat. :D

service with a smile indeed :jap:

Only if your skint. I enjoy eating quality food and don't mind paying for it.

But to answer your initial question, the food at Sweeney Todds is very good and very well priced. A full English breakfast with toast and a choice of tea or coffee is 160 baht.

dam_n !! I was scammed :o

Looking at the above list It states marmalade or jam  I got the toast but no jam

Only joking :D

I never eat it anyway. To your average Farang the standard breakfast at 160 baht would be fine. As I'm a hungry faced Farang the Mega was the one for me. 290 baht for what you get for me is fair value for a quality breakfast. I have tried lots at that price or even more expensive and none come near.

One sausage, one bacon. The rest, yes.

I have to qualify this post by saying that I have never been to ST's, but usually this sort of fare around Samui is:

One bacon (cost: 5 baht)

One sausage (cost: 5 baht) (The "sausage" in other places is usually a hot dog cum weenie, which in my book isn't a sausage at all.)

Two eggs (cost: 10 baht)

Tomato (cost: 3 baht) (Usually a few mushy slices)

Beans (cost: 5 baht) (Usually about three or four heaping tablespoons)

Toast (cost: 3 baht)

Tea/coffee (cost: 20 baht if fresh coffee)

Total: ~ 51 baht actual cost of food

Anyway, you can get all this (sans the beans, but plus some onion and orange juice (real) plus butter and jam and a slice of ham) at a couple of beachfront restaurants I can think of in Lamai for 100 baht, and they must be making a profit on that as well.

I'd like to see a photo of the breakfast spread, a normal setting not a special one for this forum, posted here. 160 baht seems on the high side to me; however, if it were a real breakfast sausage (the big ones like Big John sold) and included a thick slice of real ham (not cold-cuts) and a nice glass of real juice, that might be worth it.

i think you have it really really wrong here, this is an ' English Breakfest ' and not some excuse for a english breakfeast you will find in some places

The bacon used is English bacon, not Thai bacon, so the cost is maybe 10 times what you have quoted. The sausages are also english breakfeast sausages, and not 7-11 hotdogs, so again 10 times the cost of what you have put above. The toms are tinned toms, so again maybe 4 times what you have put. Beans ( please tell me where you can buy beans for 5 baht ) are a very good portion of impoted beans ( just look in tops for the price !!!, around 90 THB a tin )

toast and eggs are about right, but you have also failed to include cost to cook, electric ect ect ect, plus maybe a small profit

anyway, thats my 2 cents, just hate to see a good place serving good food put down !

Thats right. Then you can factor in rent, electricity, staff wages.......

I see this as perfectly reasonable with a reasonable profit margin.

OK,

One bacon (cost: 5x10=50 baht)

One sausage (cost: 5x10=50 baht) (The "sausage" in other places is usually a hot dog cum weenie, which in my book isn't a sausage at all.)

Toast (cost: 3 baht)

Tea/coffee (cost: 20 baht if fresh coffee)

New total: 168 baht...so they are losing money. Amazing Thailand!

Go along try the breakfast and offer an honest opinion will you?

This discussion is way beyond reasonable in my view.

a food review is about taste vs price..... not the cost of the ingredients !!! , if you are really onto moaning, try the Banyan Tree Fried rice at 360 THB ! ,

so maybe pop down there, any day but monday, try it and you may well be surprised !
