Pakistan successfully tests long-range missile with nuclear possibilities

2011-04-29 22:45:15 GMT+7 (ICT)

RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Pakistan on Friday successfully conducted flight test of the new Air-Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) Hatf VIII (Ra'ad), which is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

According to Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the indigenously developed cruise missile has a range of 350 kilometers (217.47 miles) and can deliver nuclear and conventional warheads with great pin point accuracy.

In addition, the new Ra'ad missile has an extremely complex cruise technology as well as a stealth design. The Haft VII was designed exclusively for launch from aerial platforms.

The technology used in the cruise missile has been developed by only a few nations world wide. On April 19, Pakistan tested a newly developed short-range surface-to-surface missile.

The Multi Tube Ballistic Missile Hatf IX (NASR) has a 60 kilometer (37.2 miles) range and can also carry nuclear warheads. According to ISPR, the missiles are a response to the need to deter evolving threats.
