See comment above. Basic common sense, that's all what it is.

Exactly. That is what it usually boils down to.. Unfortunately, common sense is not so common these days.

Isn't your statement, "someone chooses a good mate for life" judgemental? I would imagine the opposite of a good mate is a bad mate?

Maybe I am missing your point but I think you have subconsciously made your feelings known. That is that BG's are automatic bad mates.

Since Bargirl = prostitute then your goddamn right a prostitute makes a bad mate. For the love of god! Only in Thailand would anyone even think of saying something as ridiculous as "youre being judgemental and mean if you label all prostitutes as bad wives..." Holy frickin hell! Nothing subconcious about it! I never even tried to be subtle and hint that a hooker might be a bad idea for a wife, I violently oppose the very notion! Waitress no problem.

LOL.. I rolled my eyes when you said that you used to date waitresses in gogo bars thinking they're somehow different from other staff. But didn't respond because you mentioning it led me to believe that you now know better. Then comes this post, where you have now moved the line, with all naughty-bar staff being on the wrong side, and waitresses in regular restaurants on the good side.

You still don't get it.

Same background. You run into the same issues, mostly related to differences in wealth, background and education. There is no significant difference between a bargirl (let's for argument's sake take a 'good' one, with morals and who's only been at it for a few weeks/months) and a girl in another lower end profession such as a waitress, maid, gas station attendant, construction worker, factory worker, farm girl and so on and so on.

What makes the OT (original troll ) so interesting is that it's left unsaid how people would even know she's a bargirl and not a waitress from the very same rural background. So it's left up to interpretation if this is a racist/classist attitude against the girl and her boyfriend, or a moral one. Very, VERY well done. Hats off, and yes, I'm jealous that I didn't think of this one as a topic.

We will have to completely disagree. There is a world of difference between a girl who REFUSES to cave into the temptation to sell her body for an easier life due to strong moral inclinations and the girl who is lazy and wants the easy life and sees nothing wrong with the soul sucking past time of selling her body. I'll take the 7-11 counter girl over the sexiest whore ANY DAY. If that 7-11 girl is even remotely cute she has to be one of the best souls in the world to not take that cuteness and sell it for an hour or 2 a night for good money instead of 10 hour shifts for a craptastic salary.

I think I am about 40 years older than you. When I walk into a 7/11 and the cute cashier flirts with me I think it is safe to assume she is not flirting with me for the same reason she is flirting with you.

I am glad you learned about the waitresses in dancing establishments. It shows you are not afraid to admit your mistakes, learn and move on. It shows you have an open and inquiring mind.

I think you may be well on your way to discovering the the inner motivation of 7/11 clerks; no small accomplishment in itself.

When you get ready to move up to nurses, let me know. You might even want to skip nurses and move straight to name brand cosmetic sales girls at the mall. Although that is quite a jump. Maybe nurses are a good intermediate step. If you do jump to the cosmetic ladies, remember they put the top lines closest to the main entrance so start with the back of the department, till you hone your skills.

I don't really know how to spot ladies with the best souls. It would be nice if they wore badges or some kind of identifying name plate.

...as there is no such universal standard that passes for reasoning logic. Common...??B)

You has 7/11 girls flirting with you?! Dude! I'm so jealous....

When I first got here I made lots of mistakes, we all do, its the guys that keep going at it 10 years later that are the problem.

The nicest Thai girl I dated was a nurse... I miss her.

I guess I am too cryptic.

Souls be they the best or the worst are not determined by what a person does for a living.

I go to the hospital 2-3 time a year to see my dentist. I never saw so many beautiful girls in the same building anywhere else.

Regarding the girls at the cosmetic counter, i'm going to disappoint a number of posters here but most of them are men rolleyes.gif

No but its a dam_n good indication. You are being silly trying to convince me that hookers have hearts of gold. Silly man.

Me too. I married a nurse. The raunchiest bunch of single women I ever met were nurses. But, that is just a generalization. There could be exceptions. I would hazard a guess that those of us who are discussing this topic are probably on the same page, but looking at the topic from slightly different perspectives. The average Issan farm girl is not likely to mix well with high society women with much higher educations. She won't dress the same or discuss the same topics, or fit in, in any ways. She also might be much prettier which can cause problems of jealousy. What people do to survive will have a bearing on how they act in the future. I've known some pretty slutty women who have used their bodies to further their careers. They are no better and not worse than the men who used them.

Not trying to convince you. I am convinced you know all about hookers and waitresses who work in go go's.

What you don't know about is 7/11 workers and nurses. Give it time you will learn.

No it isn't. I started at cosmetic sales girls at malls, and by and large it's a similar rural background as low end jobs. In many ways it may actually be worse than bargirls, because at least bargirls don't tend to think of themselves as better or higher class than anyone else. With mall girls this is rife.

Yah, but those gals that work in DTAC in the Chiang Mai airport plaza ARE rather cute. They all speak great English as well. And, they can even program a cel-phone I have difficulty with. I think I'll take one home as a spare. A man can never have enough spares. :whistling:

So for the ones defending this kind of thing (bringing hookers to work dinners and events) my question is: Everything in life should be completely equal? Everyone should be allowed to do whatever they want anytime and not be judged? I just don't get where the line is drawn for you guys... is there a line? If he showed up with his 13 year old girlfriend would that be finally too far for you guys or is everything not allowed to be judged? I'm totally serious, just very interested to know. Because by any cultures standards, bringing a hooker to such an event and being judged and frowned upon for it would be normal and not seen as elitist snobs just being bad for making those judgements.

Agree. This is not even about "face," but more about social decorum. And that's based on an even more universal concept of "community standards." What is community standards, you ask? Well, it depends on the community. Thais can be pretty accepting of individual idiosyncrasies--the OP even mentioned that the community had no problem with same-sex couples. But bringing a hooker to a company gathering does not even require some far-fetched analogy--if you do the exact same thing in, say, America, you would be equally chastised and ridiculed. The fact that it's largely social events that this guy is being excluded from eliminates any sort of discrimination claims. This is another example of a farang doing something which he would never do in his home country and expecting (or demanding) that the Thais accept his behavior as reasonable.

Did this distasteful female exhibit some sort of outrageous behaviour at the first party so bringing down upon herself the well deserved reputation of social pariah?

or was it just a bunch of wannabe hi-sos displaying their predjudices for all to see?

naa, I think it's just a troll.

Only sensible post in the whole thread...

When I was a kid, when there was something I didn't like, I used to put my hands in front my eyes and make a lot of noise. If I don't see it and I don't hear it, then it doesn't exist.

A lot of kids do that but most eventually grow up.

I know some bargirls who have better morals than some so called upper class .

There had to be the inevitable response of how prostitutes are exactly the same as everyone else, especially the 'so-called' upper class.

It was considered inappropriate for the young guy to bring a prostitute and he was pretty much told this. Jumping up and down while holding your breath isn't going to change that. Is the job really as important as making a point about discrimination?

I can just see the 'girlfriend' having a good time at the party and feeling all welcome and comfortable, mingling with everyone and having excellent discussions about shopping in Paris, Disney in HK etc...

I think it was fairly thoughtless of the young guy to have placed the woman in this position in the first place

.. now live in a small town. <snip> But this week I had a minor cash fling with a lady who sells Pad Thai while my GF was out of town. Now every time I walk by her Pad Thai cart she says hello and smiles sweetly at me. I just hope she can keep her mouth shut when the GF comes back tonight.

Likely gonna be the bamboo grapevine that will cost you some serious grief! ;)

This thread has never been about me. Here I'm just an observer and share what I saw. You chose to ignore the reality, it's your choice, but it won't make it go away.

Questions I didn't answered ? Which ones ?

What behavior did the girl exhibit that caused her to be a “social pariah”? How did everyone know she was a BG? By the way she dressed? Her skin color? Her accent?

None of that has been answered. The other people would not have shunned her with out reason. It was not because she is a BG, because how did they know she was a BG?

How long are have you been living in Thailand?

You know what they say, if she looks like a duck, walk like a duck, talk like a duck ... then someone asked them, innocently, where they met !

Any other question ?
