BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- Iraqi authorities on Wednesday said that a car bomb blast killed 9 civilians and injured 27 more in south Baghdad, the Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

The explosion took place on Tuesday night as explosives were planted in a vehicle in Baghdad's Daura district. The car was parked on the roadside when it was remotely detonated.

Violence continued in the Iraqi capital on Wednesday when two men were shot dead by unknown gunmen in two separate locations. In Baghdad's northeastern Cairo district, a police officer was killed by gunmen using weapons with silences.

In the nearby Merchants district, an employee of the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation and Communications was killed due to unknown reasons. In both shootings, the perpetrators managed to flee before security forces arrived.

Over the weekend, armed men blew up the house of Kadhimiya district's Judge, Tu'ma Jabbar, in north Baghdad. A guard was killed and the judge's wife and daughter were injured. The attackers then abducted Jabbar.
