MEHTARLAM, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A traffic accident during a wedding procession in eastern Afghanistan resulted in the death of five people, while nine others were injured, officials said Friday.

Highway security commander Safa Gul said the wedding car collided with another vehicle on the Kabul-Sarobi highway in the eastern province of Laghman, Afghanistan, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

The collision killed five people, including two women, a man, and a child belonging to the same family, and another woman. The bodies were taken to a hospital before being released to their relatives. Some of the nine injured were reported in serious condition and were being treated at a nearby hospital in the Nangahar province.

The wedding car had reportedly taken off from Kabul and was on its way to Laghman. According to witnesses, the wedding car was driving at high speeds at the moment of the crash.
