Hello all,

my passport has been damaged and I had to make a new one at my embassy in Bangkok. Now I have to transfer my current tourist visa in the new passport.

Which immigration office does that? I will also have to ask for an extension as the visa expires on tuesday, so it will be nice if I could do these both things at the same office.

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!

Recent reports are that no transfer is required for tourist visa entry - you just show both passports at exit. But if extension done they may do it at the same time - any local immigration office should be able to do the extension of stay.

"Recent reports"?

My suggestion is to go to the nearest immigration office and have the stamps transferred to the new passport. It does not cost anything (except for taxi fees and your time) but gives you ease of heart when you to to the immigration counter at the airport when leaving the country.

Yes recent reports are that Bangkok is telling those trying to do transfer to just take both passports to airport and leave; and refusing to do any paperwork at Chiang Watanna.

Very interesting, thanks.

What, in fact, is the legal situation about this?

It appears to be current policy, as are most such things; rather than hard law. Stamps in an old passport are normally legal when shown with a current passport (visas do not expire because the passport has expired) so see nothing amiss about it.

Thanks for this.
