If someone want's to distill some "Spirits", a licence is required. (For tax purposes, I suppose.)

- But how about growing some Tobacco on the property, strictly on a low scale and for "home-use" only.

Need license? Tax aspect involved? Also: If there should be something like a "home-use-exemption", how much land could be planted with Tobacco to sail under a "home-use-exemption?" = if at all!

Thanks & cheers.

Heavy smoker are we?

For something that costs about 5 baht per bag it hardly seems worth the time and effort.

easy, rgs.

if it was 1 baht/100 kilos it is worth the time and effort if the guy who posted enjoys growing something different.

i'm also interested in growing it, not so much in the legalities of it, just growing tips and seed availability.(i wouldn't know a tobacco seed from a pumpkin seed...)

i'm a non smoker but a chewer. i've found (and subsequently lost) a recipe for home made chewing tobacco. it involved tobacco leaf and molasses if my memory serves me correct. i'll find it again if i get some seed, thankyou Google.

i may be wrong (i don't think so) but i don't think there is any thai made chewing tobacco products in thailand.

I went to the Ag fair at Maejo university (Chiang Mai) a couple of years ago.

There was a stall there from a tobacco growing company.

There was no meaningful information on display.

& no meaningful information in the heads of the people on the stall.

They said they would talk to the boss & send us some seeds.

Surprise surprise, never heard from them again.

Must confess, never looked at the price per bag (btw, what would be the weight of a bag?)

Knowing that a lot of produce in Thailand (and probably tobacco included) is still grown with the help of the usage of liberal amounts of pesticides etc.

So, the consumption of tobacco is not exactly beneficial for ones health in any case, I could do without the pesticide additions.

To stop smoking would solve the problem. But, like Mark Twain said: "To stop smoking is easy, I did it 20 times !" HeHe.

Cheers.
