Hi all,

I have a firm job offer in Thailand, have the letter of recommandation from them already and plan to ask for my non-immigrant B visa in Hull this week.

Now I am just wondering what is really the difference between the single and un multiple entry, as anyway, as I understood, I would have to ask for a 1 year extension before 90 days and get the work permit (I am completely confused on that point).

Also if I lose the job after one month (you never know), the multiple entry would allow me to stay in Thailand for 12 months anyway right?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Your answer can be found from this website. However, the answer to your question is: Single entry=90 days. You must get a work permit and extension before your 90 days are up. You are able to get 14/15 day extentions if you can show proof that your work permit process is under way. A multiple entry means you must exit the Kingdom every 90 days. If you are getting a work permit after arriving, then save money and get a single entry. Whether you have a single or multiple entry visa, it is extended for one year

thanks a lot for the clarification, I searched the site, but couldnt find a precise answer. :)

By the way does anyone know how long it takes to get the visa by mail from Hull if I send it from France?

If you are a UK citizen then send it to sister or something and do it from there. You have to remember that the UK did not sign the free movement document.

{edit to add} Schengen

A multi entry allows 90 day stays and would survive loss of employment where an extension of stay would immediately end. Not all (in fact many can not) employment work permits allow obtaining extensions of stay so you need to know if/when such would be available (there are company and financial requirements). You do not obtain 15 day extensions of stay. A work permit does not mean you qualify for any extension of stay.

so the multiple entry avoids the fact that I have to ask for an extension of stay?

On the other hand I would have to do border runs with multiple entry, and only report every 90 days at immigration with the extension of stay. Am I correct?

Mmh tricky, I dont know which one to apply for now...

Basically yes - the key question is will you be able to obtain one year extension of stay. A new company or pay below the requirement for your nationality could make extension of stay unlikely or impossible.

As said, check if you qualify for an extension of stay from immigration. If you do not, a multiple will be the best.

If you qualify depends on the company and the job. For most jobs there is a minimum income requirement. For a west european that would be 50,000 baht a month.

I think I am qualified, I will earn more than 50k... I just think if I quit (or get fired) after a few months, I dont want to have to leave the country right away and apply for a new visa.

Just as a security multiple entry would be better in this case?

well I will be in Chanthaburi, so not far from Cambodia.

My main concern is what happens if I lose the job, I am just not confident about it.

but I heard you have to leave the country after 24h in case you lose your job while having a 1 year-extension...

and tourist visas seem to get harder and harder to get :/

If you can not leave that fast you can always obtain 7 days under review to allow time to make plans. Tourist visas are getting harder to use continually - not for occasional tourist visits.

and if I get the multiple entry first, is there a way that I only have to report every 90 days instead of doing border runs?
