Porridge

Featured Replies

this isn't about Thai food, but my daily porridge.

bought a new instant brand at Villa's the other week - ok, no big shakes. Been eating it now for a couple of days. This morning, half way through eating, I inspected it a bit more closely, looking at random black specks. One definitely had rows of legs, a little bulge for a head and two antennae. Stirring around, found a few more similar looking items and promptly felt a bit nauseous. Inspected packet and indeed, quite a few black specks around. thankfully not moving.

so....... should I bother taking the porridge back to Villa?

I experience similar weevils in boxed breadcrumbs whilst I was working in Papua New Guinea a decade or so ago... :D

I took them it back to the shop for replacement, only to find that every pack was infested. :D

I ended up putting the pack in the freezer to kill the little buggers, then using the product as I normally would... figuring that a little additional protein won't hurt you... :o

:D

I suggest you spread the oats or whatever evenly on a plate and nuke them in a microwave oven.

Then storing your "nuked" dried goods in plastic containers.

Be thankful for the extra protein.
