Hello there.

I initially entered thailand by air and therefore got an on arrival. When that ran out, I went to maylasia and got a 60 day tourist visa at the thai embassy which I then extended in bangkok by another 30 days. I would like to stay a little bit longer so I was wondering is Laos the best place to extend? Or is another option better? I would like to know the fee and time taken also, and if problems might be caused because I have already extended it.

Thanks

Simon

You can not extend outside of Thailand - you would either get a 15/30 days (land/air) visa exempt entry or obtain a new visa at the Royal Thai Consulate for a new 60 day entry. Fee for Thai visa would be about 1,000 baht and fee for Lao visa about $30 I believe. Normal time is submit in morning and pick up next workday afternoon.

It may not be the cheapest (we have some folks who can survive on air it seems) likely your best choice would be an organized visa trip from one of the services providing that service who advertise in the Bangkok newspapers. One service is to Vientiane in Laos and the other just across the border into Cambodia. Both require an overnight stay. For most people doing it yourself the first time would not be cost saving.

there is a company claiming they can take you on a coach and it will be done on same day. So no overnight stay. Is that right for a 60 day tourist visa in cambodia or laos?

THANKS

It would be a very long day I suspect and expect most people would prefer a rest in bed - I would not even consider it.
