Prices Of Things On Samui

Featured Replies

I know we all get a little fed up with some shops that tend to try over charge for some things here on Samui (or KP) ... but it is not always the case... some are very fair.....

Some times a case of shopping around to avoid... or the shops know you as a "repeat customer", will give a better price... Some small shops can be very competitive on prices... even a small shop in Maenam, I stock up on beer or buy my ciggys are the same price as the bigger stores & ciggies less than 7-11.... and I don't even have to get off my bike!

When I was in BKK last week, I checked out Tesco prices and to my surprise all the general items I generally buy on a regular basis was the same as here..... My biggest blight here is it seems to take Tesco or even the other larger shops to restock items, although there were a few things I looked for in BKK and could not find either... ! :angry:Tesco Dark chocolate being one!

Yesterday I had to rent a couple of adjustable support braces, from the Rental Shop near Nanthon, figuring in my mind it might be around 100 baht or so a day, they were 4 baht each per day... Oh! :o I was amazed, to say the least, a simple process, they copied my drivers license and I coughed up 16 baht (for 2 days)... hardly enough to cover the printing cost of the invoice and photocopy my DL... and no deposit! :) ...

So it's not all bad when it comes to pricing....

my local pharmacy has gone through and sticker priced their entire inventory. perhaps to avoid any notion of double pricing. not sure how effective it is though because they don't even charge me the sticker price, so i guess double pricing still exists.

The sticker price is definitely the double price falang edition. So when you ask for something and they say 330baht they throw the box in front of your face, so the intelligent falang thinks oh well that must be the real price, smart on me for going to a pharmacy where things are properly priced up. :whistling: There is only one I found that is reasonable small one in Phai Leam next to the 7/11 - no price stickers. But yeah shop around is the right message, case in point the pharmacy on the big buddha sharp corner charges 130baht vs 80baht for the same thing in phai leam
