PRIME MINISTER THAKSIN TO APPLY PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE IN THE DEEP SOUTH

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA indicated that he would apply psychological warfare in the three southern border provinces of PATTANI, NARATHIWAT and YALA. He said this strategy is designed to win over the hearts and minds of the Muslim populace.

Dr. THAKSIN said about the tensed situation in the Deep South has caused uneasiness among the people; and because of mistrust, people tend to turn away from strangers without giving one another opportunities to differentiate the good and the evil.

The premier said he will do all he can to quickly implement psychological warfare into the region. As for insurgent groups, Prime Minister THAKSIN will spare no excuses from them. He will exert and enforce stricter rules in regulating and controlling the violence.

He added that in numerous other terrorist attacks in the past, it appeared the security forces in the South were caught off-guard. Time and again, security officials in these southern border provinces tend to play down the on-again-off-again campaign of terror, including bombing attacks on civilians, the burning of schools and extortion.

The Prime Minister said that he will ensure close coordination amongst police, military and other government agencies in ensuring peace and stability, which are prerequisites for social and economic development of the region. The premier will reward law enforcers who have shown great performances as well.

Does this now mean that the police can supplement their pay by killing "insurgents". This could make the drug war tally look miniscule!!

A prudent reader would even wonder if "Dr." T understands what the term "psychological warfare" means....

I suppose if he wants to begin the campaign with confusion, disbelief, and uncertainity as his chosen form of "psychological warfare", he's doing very well thus far.

Exactly.. sure seems like someone hasnt really thought out how to use psychology to effect the tone of the piece.. Terms like 'warfare' to 'win hearts and minds' is pure Thailand..
