JOGJAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- They Indonesian Economic Ministry on Friday said it is pushing to increase the country's per capita income to $5,000 by 2014 and eventually become one of the world's largest economies.

As part of the 'Master Plan Vision for 2025,' Hatta Rajasa, Indonesia's coordinating minister for economic affairs, said the country is looking to boost the people's per capita income up to $14,900 in 2025 in order for the country to become one of the world's 12 new economic powers, Antara news agency reported.

Speaking at Muhammadiyah University in Jogjakarta, Java, Hatta said initial efforts have been made to increase per capita income in 2010 to $3,000, pushing for $5,000 by 2014, and eventually reaching a $46,900 per capita income after celebrating Indonesia's 100th year of independence in 2045. This would place Indonesia as the seventh biggest economy in the world.

In 2008, Indonesia's economy had been considered 'dead' as its people's per capita income was recorded at $500, Hatta explained, adding that in order for the country to reach these objectives, efforts would be taken by developing subsidized low-cost houses, clean water projects, cheap transportation facilities, cheap electricity and improving the welfare of fishermen.

Hatta underlined the importance of reaching these goals in order to continue reducing the nations poverty rate, which has decreased by 13.3 percent, while maintaining a disparity rate between community members of 0.331, which is over India's and China's.
