Hi everyone,

I m in Samui now, and I wonder if someone here in this forum knows someone from the management of the New Star Hotel.

I have already written to the email adress found on the website but think I ll never get an answer...

Could not get to the reception hotel to get the room rate and it seems on of the security guard there has full power to threaten people with his stick, so I think the management has to know about this behaviour.

We were a couple and we walked all along Chaweng noi beach to chose a hotel, and as we wanted to go to the reception, the security guard told us we could not do it from the beach, we should return to the main road and use the road entrance.... that means 30 minutes walk to get the information we needed... the guy could not even give us the rate, just said 10000 TB per night.

By the way, he spoke on a very agressive ton and told us we should not even walk on the private part of the beach .. We were decently dressed, with bermudas and tee shirts, not drunk, nothing like

Anyway, we went on, got informations from other hotels nearby till the end of the beach, until we returned walking on the mainroad to the new star main entrance.

Then, the same security gaurd who had left the beach and joined his collegue at the entrance just forbid us to go to the reception, and probably was afraid we would complain about his behaviour.

We insisted on wanting to go to the reception, but he then treatened us with his stick.

We hate to quarrel for silly thinks , but we even more hate to be threatened. And we are determined not to let this incident unknown.

We do not trust the staff of this hotel, as we experienced the way the security guard feels comfortable to decide who comes inside or not, and does not hesitate to physically threatens would be guests.

It happened during lunch time today.

Thanks anyway if someone can give me the contact we are looking for.

I am confused.

You walked along to beach to find a hotel and paid 10,000 baht per night?? And then the guy beat you with a stick??

Thanks to everyone for reading my poor english written post...

I had a very short night, I felt upset, and just gave up thinking how things would have turned out had the guy carried a gun, instead of a stick.

I think he was afraid I would complain, so he physically empeached me to make a phone call to the hotel while we werw just standing outside on the mainroad.

When we stll were on the beach we did not want to make too much trouble, because of the guests lying in the sun who do not need to witness this, so we walked away.

But half an hour later, when we arrived near the entrance, from the mainroad, we noticed the guard was waiting for our return, and then they were two to forbid us to go further.

We are not people to get easily out of temper , sadly we are in our 50 s ... but we do not like to act by force under intimidation, so we asked for explanations, and then he threatened us. By the way, I notice that the beach side was propably left without any safety guard during all the time.

I endly told the guy he was a dangerous man , and he said yes, and said he does not speak english anyway.. so I said mai pen rai and walked away.

I think he told me the 10000 TB rate in order to discourage me, meaning this hotel is not for me.

He could simply let me call the reception to ask for the room rate , but told me I should check with internet.

So , no step inside, no phone call, and physically threatened, to avoid any encounter with any other person who could be in position to check and balance.

Thanks everyone again, I felt I needed some help.

Maybe the guard was doing the right thing and instructed these people to enter the reception via the main gate. The management may have had problem's with people pretending to go to reception then rob a few bungalows on the way. Also most guard have poor understanding of english and these people admit there english is not good so old story half the fact's. Has the poster called the resort for a response as a phone number has been provided.

of course he spoke english, until he could not find other arguments, as we arrived at the main entrance as he told us to do, and then were denied by force access to the main lobby.

as i said, the major fact that seems important to me is the use of physical threat.

maybe would you just have said ok, ok then... i just do not like to be treated like a guilty person when i just ask for information and do as i was asked.

well let's assume the guard is following instructions... after all it's his job, otherwise no need to place a guard, the guard is there to make SURE nobody who doesn't stay there moves through the premises...right?

Another thing is that he could have escorted you to the reception, maybe badly trained... who knows, but then, not HIS fault!

next thing is and sorry for this, why is the OP so keen on placing a complaint?

relax, go somewhere else where people are friendly, supportive and welcome customers, after all you are on holidays...enjoy and keep on going!

I am in the industry, some time just the wrong people meet at the wrong time, wrong spot, under bad circumstances, it's like with accidents it always takes 2 to tango!

sorry, my very humble, but honest opinion on this!

If already complained and no response then I'd move on. Hotel guards get a pretty crappy life, long hours, 5-6k a month, and bosses are usually pretty dam_n mean (watch them line them up in the sun for a briefing as if they are in the army), in many hotel its outsourced too.

So you're in the hospitality industry and don't think people should complain if threatened by an employee. I guess that's understandable.

I'm a bit confused here. Who had the problems, Opl or mufcsamui? Or both?

there is nothing than a small Soi belonging to the resort, which leads to the main road, on the other side. So, no one would walk through that place, except to take a look at it and to be a potential future customer....

I am curious, is this "beach is king's land" thing real? Can I go via the beach to any resort's beach area and bring a cooler and set up a BBQ? Can I do this at one of the US$1,000 a night places? Should I video this?

oh, and can we say New Star Hotel? Maybe the poser is a shill or whatever. WE can use names?

First two: there are no resort beach areas, because no beach areas belong to the resorts. That is clearly stated in the Chanots. You and everyone else can bring a cooler and set up a BBQ..that's all the idea actually and yes, you can video that and show that at your birthday party if you wanna to.

You are easily confused, i asked 1 question so your smart answer leaves you looking a bit stupid.

What the hell are you talking about? What smart answer? Both of you posted about "he told us" etc. Are you one in the same person with two usernames?

EDIT - OK, I see what happened. You just don't know how to properly quote a thread so it looked like his words were yours. Which of course makes YOU look stupid. Please learn how to post properly before you start calling people names. I await your apology.

So easy???

first you blow up a big bubble, and then "you received a phone call from the big boss, and "alles ist in ordnung"

Maybe the big boss just knows a little something about customer service? You know, one of the things Samui is often slammed for not having?

The way some here go after the OP you'd think he was a rape victim.
