hi guys, bought a new pickup this year. insurance is up in 2 months. the company we are with wont stop ringing the wife to ask do we want to stay with them.they are the ones Ford picked when they gave us free insurance, so i figure ford would have picked a good one.the wife told them we will stay to which the lady said, we need you to pay half now and the other half when the policy is due for renewal. the original policy isnt up for another 2 months. why do they need the money now. is this the norm for renewing insurance or is this the typical bullsh&t you get from thai companies to close the sale.i also wanted to pay monthly direct debit but was assured that this wasnt available. is this true.if it is your opinion that they are trying it on, then please can you give me the name of the insurer you have been using.many thanks in advance for your help.

You are being duped....

If you can not find another insurance agent or company who

offers monthly installment plan,

pm me.

And if you are a representative of the insurance company who has been

trying to get me to reveal the company who accepts monthly installment,

don't bother to try.

Just ask yourself, why would I or why should I tell you who they are?

Insurance biz is very lucrative indeed, you ought to be more creative to attract more biz,

particularly new biz which is even more lucrative in terms of commissions, no?

There are insurance companies who would help their clients to survive and minimize.

So within 30 days of expiration, pm me, if you need help.

But never prepaid like what you are led to believe.

Tell them whoever they are.... that all farangs are MAI stupid and helpless as many do appear on Thaivisa.... LOL :o

Vont is correct by saying you do not have to pay now, only 'sometime' before the expiry date - a day before is sufficient !

However where Vont is wrong is where he says :

Insurance biz is very lucrative indeed, you ought to be more creative to attract more biz,

particularly new biz which is even more lucrative in terms of commissions, no?

The ins. biz at present is not lucrative - you only have to see the annual reports to realise that - with one of the very biggest having to be 'helped' by the Government to stave off bankruptcy and a huge national scandal not too long ago.

As for more lucrative commissions ? Not sure where there came from as the commissions are always the same from new or renewed policies !

why would one want to pay by the month for insurance ?

It shits me I need to pay utility bills monthly let alone add another to the monthly to do list.

But then I spose if pay by the month is the same total $$$ as pay by the year......................

If I could, I would have slapped my two sisters' monthly statements with BAY to reveal the inner working of the insurance company both in Thailand and overseas,

each showing six figure commissions monthly....

But I also hasten to add that they work their tails off every day, day in and day out....

The add-on premium have been awards of traveling overseas all expenses paid....

Rep from Thaivisa Insurance.... Do you still not know where I am coming from....?

How could you though? When our offices are on different skyscraper bldg ....? :jap:

MAY I OFFER TO REBUT.... PLS?

If you are an insurance agent and no insurance buddy ever tells you.... and that you never realize that....

insurance biz is very lucrative indeed, you ought to be more creative to attract more biz,

particularly new biz which is even more lucrative in terms of commissions, no?

Then my friend, you really ought to wake up from this very moment and.... GO GET IT AND SET YOUR OWN HIGH STANDARDS TO MATCH YOUR VERY OWN ASPIRATONS.... :jap:

With all due respect to all licensed insurance agents in Thailand and overseas.... :jap: :jap:

thanks for the advice. i am not a broker, just my first pickup in thailand and not sure what is the norm. it seemed a bit unusual that they wanted half the money for the new policy even before the old one had expired. the thai companies that i deal with are always trying it on in some shape or another. my creditcard company paid out a premium to a life insurance agent because he told them, get this. that we said it was ok to take it. no phonecall to us to confirm, nothing. we had to pay it and then try to get the money back ourselves.still havent got it and it looks like we wont either. morons. anyway i will shop around for the next week and if i dont find someone trustworthy i will definitely p.m. you.

thanks for all your help.

Regards.

"...anyway i will shop around for the next week and if i dont find someone trustworthy i will definitely p.m. you."

May I ask how you'll decide if someone is trustworthy, or not?

"And if you are a representative of the insurance company who has been

trying to get me to reveal the company who accepts monthly installment,

"Just ask yourself, why would I or why should I tell you who they are?"

I took that question as general to all readers here. I guess I'd expect to know who I was dealing with so I could decide if I wanted to give my money to them, or not.

I'd ask myself another question; "What does he have to hide, that he's not revealing who will provide the insurance."

"...if i dont find someone trustworthy i will definitely p.m. you."

So, you've already decided he's trustworthy?

I'm sure the appeal of monthly payments is something that many would be interested in. Just not sure I'd do business with someone who wants to keep secrets about the company.

If the company is good, why wouldn't they want the free publicity this forum is offering?

I am not the one whom you will be dealing with, with insurance issues.

I am not even the one whom you'll be getting details info from.

I am not even remotely connected with these insurance companies or agents, in every sense of the word.

But I and several other friends are the very ones who benefit from this monthly arrangement.

So, what do you think? Do I really know about these companies?

Subsequently, what are some of your next skepticism, darling? B)

And I can categorically and unequivocally tell you that there are numerous farangs on board Thaivisa here,

who know alot more than 99% of other farangs, including George himself, but these people are mostly private persons.

Most have no more interest in fame and fortune in their remaining lives, so if and when they feel like to say or do something,

or when something touches their heart or fires them up or irritates them unbearably, among others....

then they would do their thing.... just perhaps out of boredom, I guess.... LOL :coffee1:

I guess it won't hurt to help TerryLH, perhaps another insurance agent ....?, to sleep better tonite and also

to widen Terry's horizon in insurance biz a tiny bit.... the attached is the proposed coverage policy received last week

for coverage for the year 2055 or 2012 on my Ford pickup....

Do you still doubt the legitimacy of some of the insurance companies that are perhaps beyond the realm of your current experiences....?

Reading Thaivisa is only on my leisure time, and it is not even one of my favorite activities either.

So I do not intend to have a prolonged debate about what is and/or what is not proper or legitimate et al....

My general suggestion for everyone is Buyers Beware....

Last doubting question: Did I purchase insurance from this company? Affirmative for the last 4 yrs. and for different vehicles. :)

Why are you quoting and replying to yourself Vont ?

A person approaching three scores and ten by Christmas surely would do many things not quite ordinary,

some maybe annoying as buzzing mosquitos by your ears at night... LOL

Just thought to clarify some point further and perhaps to muddle up an issue or two even more.... :jap: sorry....

OP

only desperate Insurance agents want 50% payed 2 months before Insurance is due.

use a reputable broker like ThaiVisa Insurance, or buy directly from an Insurancecompany accepting using new parts in any garage and has credit to pay bills in a garage of your choise. There are a huge amount of Insurancecompanies in Thailand, most of them do not have credit in reputable garages. You can pay to have your car repaired, and if lucky get your money back from your Insurancecompany

It is not uncommon for car dealership sales staff to convince car owners to buy Insurance from them. Some of these Insurances are payed by car owner but never issued

car Insurance is payed a week or two before needed, to make sure it covers the day the old one expires

hi guys, got a bit more clarity from the wife today. insurance company says they will drop the quote by 4000 baht if we pay half now and the remainder on day of expiration. they also dont offer installment payments, just a one off. this is the same company ford used when they gave us our first years free insurance. surely ford wouldnt use them if they thought they werent reliable. Insurance company is LMG. hope i'm allowed to put the name on here.

ford and any other car dealers uses the insurance giving them lowest price and highest kick back when they give it for free. My previous advice is still valid

Just a suggestion, if you incline to pay;

PAY DIRECTLY TO THE PARENT COMPANY AND DEMAND

AN OFFICIAL RECEIPT FROM THE PARENT COMPANY AS WELL....

Many agents, perhaps not those you are involved with, are doing out of ordinary things because

of various reasons, such as the person is being laid off soon etc....

Just don't want to see you end up with worthless piece of receipt from some quick setup shop....

To have your peace of mind, search google for the parent company number, then inquire whatever you deem appropriate that would give you the necessary peace of mind and the worth of your money; would be my humble suggestion for now.... B)

Good luck and have fun. :D

If you want to be sure to get repairs done at the dealer go there and negotiate insurance with them including renewals. First go to a few companies and get written quotes and use them to negotiate a better deal. Remember that not all insurance companies are equall in coverage and service so check reputation with users.
