Hello All,

Read some treads but not being familiar with Bangkok, looking for confirmation.

Looking for a simple route from victory monument (mini van drop off point) to swampy, 11am.

Victory monument, tuk tuk to phaya thai to swampy?

Thanks

Why not just take the skytrain from Victory Monument to Phaya Thai, and then the City Line to the airport? You sure can't miss seeing the skytrain station at Victory Monument. An idiot could go that route.

Alternatively, you can take bus #551 if you are looking for cheap. I can't imagine it getting any easier than that. Last stop is the airport. They'll force you off at the right place if you don't do something stupid and jump out a window.

There are also minivans that leave from Victory Monument to Swampy, but I've never taken those. They usually hang out in the Northeast quadrant. Possibly on the other side of the circle from where you will be dropped. More comfortable to take the Big Orange Bus (BOB) in my opinion though. Those minivans are cramped and scary.

Finally, if you really can't figure out any other way, there are always scores of taxis making lazy circles around that place trying to pick up fares. I've yet to find a taxi driver in Bangkok that doesn't know the English word "airport", and presumably how to rig his meter to overcharge you for going in that direction.

Unless you have a ton of baggage, as the earlier poster suggested, the Airport Rail Link is a no-brainer. Very convenient and cheap.

Sorry for above-this computershop suddenly put me on the run. MOD-please delete 2nd-3d same.

@1.Bus 551 has been withdrawn since nov 2010-due to nearby ARL. Anyway, for its last 2 years it was not even orange, bus all-yellow (private operator) and ended-as all big buses do, at airport BUSterminal-requiring andother free shuttle bus to main terminal. Nor did it run that frequent-most times ev 30 mins, or even less-due to minivans.->[2] In fact other big bus airportroutes have since also ceased to run as such-leaving only the minivans on those routes (like 552 to Onnut)

@2.MINIVan I have taken many times-the parrotting they are overcrowded etc seems just that-the tipical TV brainless parrot. It was very fast-straight on expressway and did set you down at terminal,. They used to run 24 hrs. Alas-when I went for it a few weeks agho I ws wrned it still does run, but not 24 hrs (was 5.30-before ARL starts) and much, much less often as before.

So that leaves ARL as best choice-if you come in times when it runs- MOst minibuses can set you down very near to it, if you ask in Thai when the van comes into BKK or when boarding. often drivers even ask where people want to get off. Another advantage of speaking that tiny bit of Thai.
