I miss having a brandy at night like I did when I lived in Spain. In Spain I would go to the nearest little shop and for a few Euros I had a choice of several different local brands of Brandy. They were mostly all very cheap and I never had a bad bottle. I don't remember if they were all Brandy de Jerez or not.

Last night I was in Tesco and had a look at the different brands of Thai brandy. There were about 4 or 5 of them that I saw. They cost anywhere from 200 to 750 Baht for a bottle. Imported Brandy on the other hand was 1200 Baht on up per bottle which I'm not about to spend.

Has anyone tried Thai Brandy and if so can anyone recommend a good one?

Thanks in advance.

Thai "brandy?"

:bah:

Go to Villa if you want something decent.

EDIT: I should say that I do actually buy a lot of Thai Brandy.

I use it to light the coals on my BBQ.

Depends what you add to your brandy surely ? Nothing makes me wince more than watching Asians with more money than sense adding coca cola to a fine XO Cognac. On the other hand I would also wince at the prospect of drinking something like Regency without coca cola.

Actually Spanish brandy has its own appeal, rough sometimes for sure but not unpleasantly so. Personally I could never consider Thai brandy to be anything other than flavoured industrial spirit.

I guess I'll pass on Thai Brandy. Thanks for the replies.

Actually before you pass on Thai brandy - you may want to give Regency a go.

I have drunk some pretty foul Spanish Brandies in my time and think that Regency compares well.

Give it a shot. What have you got to lose ?

A little harsh don't you think? Generalizing "Asians" as the key group to "blasphemize" XO as per your opinion. I think palates in Thailand tend to lean more towards sweet. Besides there's absolutely nothing wrong with drinking XO with cola, if that's how a person enjoys it - nothing at all to do with money to brain ratio!

Well said - there are a few snobs on this site. Some years ago I visited the Dalwhinnie Distillery. As we sipped our free noggin at the end of the tour, someone asked the guide how she felt about people who used ice or soft drinks in their whisky. She replied that, as long as people bought their whisky, it was up to them to drink in whichever way pleased them; there were no set rules!

Don't see it as snobbish. I see it as a waste of money. A bottle of Hennessey XO runs at about a £100 even in the UK, given the fact that the moment you add cola to it you create a drink that you could have with a cheap brandy costing a tenth of the price what's the point ? Unless what you want to say is I can afford to mix cola with my XO........
