I plan to apply for a NIO visa (married with Thai wife and children) via the KL embassy. I've heard different reports recently of how much is needed and in which bank. Is it 400k bt or 800k bt; does it have to be in a Thai bank account in my name or the wife's; how long does the money have to be there (3 months prior to visa application or just a week); and can the money be in a Malaysian or UK bank instead of a Thai bank?

Many thanks!

I have found Kasikornbank to be pretty good though that may be due to an affilitation with HSBC. I can TRX an Monkey from London in 24 hours for no extra cost. Hope that helps.

I set up an account with kbank no problem. I think you only need 100,000baht in bank for the non-o visa to visit Thai wife,a letter from her asking for you to visit, copies of her ID card signed and a copy of the marriage certificate signed by her as well.

Bet I can get a non-O with just a photocopy of ID.

KL wants to see 100k in some form of account or cash for a multi entry non immigrant O visa issue - there is no need for it to be in any specific account/place/time.

Only for an extension of stay from immirgation must the money (400,000) be in a bank account in Thailand in your name only for at least 2 months.

Thanks for the replies. In a year's time, what's to stop me from getting a tourist visa for a bit, then applying for another new NIO, which only requires a foreign bank's funds of 100k bt? Why the need to extend via a Thai bank with 400k bt tied up for 2 months?

Just wondering about the peculiarity of the system!

You have to leave Thailand every 90 days or less with a multi entry visa - you do not have to do that with an extension of stay from Immigration.

There is no reason you can not obtain again (without need of a tourist visa) but for most people it is only attractive if they can not afford the extension of stay or travel frequently (offshore workers).

A multi entry Non Imm O Visa costs 5,000 Baht and requires you to leave the country every 90 days.

A 12 month extension costs 1,900 Baht and requires you to report to Immigration every 90 days.

So can a single entry NIO (instead of a multi-entry) be gotten initially via the same original conditions i.e. 100k bt in any bank account etc. and cost less than the multi-entry for 5k bt?

I apologise to other members if the non hyperbolic nature of my postabove post caused any confusion. The use of the word 'bet' at the start of thepost indicates a degree of chance therefore it could be read as a statement offact. Given that this section of the forum is English Language only I wouldexpect users to understand this term and the context. If not I'm sorry and willreduce my eloquence down accordingly

maybe you can, when i applied for my non-o visa to visit friends. The consulate in Portland, OR. asked for a copy of my bank account statement to ensure that I had enough money to live in Thailand for the 90 days. If you can get one with a photocopy of your ID good for you. But I tend to only worry about myself and what is asked of me to provide

I really don't know enough about Non-O's with regard to the US. Speculation ( all read that) would suggest that you have no need of a Non-O when a single entry 60 day visa with a 30 day extension would be enough. You should be able to get an extra 7 days at the local immigration office if needs be but other more knowledgable members may be able to advise better.
