Police say political posters should not obstruct vision on the road

BANGKOK, 5 June 2011 (NNT)-The Royal Thai Police has asked political parties to place posters where they will not obstruct traffic while also warning anyone not to gamble on the election result as it would be considered illegal

Royal Thai Police Spokesperson Maj Gen Prawut Thawornsiri said reports on the illegal gamble on the election results had prompted the police to launch an investigation. A perpetrator will face a jail term of 1-5 years and a fine of 20,000- 200,000 THB or both.

Commuters have complained to the police that many political posters have obstructed vision on the roads. The Election Commission of Thailand has been contacted and told to have these posters removed for fear of road accidents.

Maj Gen Prawut has urged political campaigners to put public interest first. He has also reiterated that there are enough police forces to maintain law and order in the society although many of them are providing protection to the candidates following the recent gun attacks.

Police are keeping their eyes on suspected gunmen and monitoring the situation at present. Meanwhile, political posters have reportedly been damaged mostly in the Northeastern, Northern and Central Thailand including Bangkok. Police teams have been dispatched to areas such as Chiang Rai, Nakhon Sawan and Narathiwat provinces where political tensions are high.

The police tell you what the penalty is for defacing/destroying political posters, and gambling on election results, why not a fine for political parties whose signs obstruct footpaths or motor ways? The Election Commission is notified of the latter case, Do they have people on standby to remove signs? Put the BIB on poster pattrol for the next month and let them do something good for the communities for a change.

There's a road hazard in Thailad?! Hard to believe with all the Safety First signs. Oh, by the way, watch out for those Safety First signs as many are placed in such a way they create a safety hazard.

The main road hazard are the convoys of three or four slowly moving pick-ups with posters and loudspeakers, traveling just a few yards apart.

Noise pollution they would be called in some parts of the world.

Does the jouro who wrote this picece have ADD..?

Political signs obstructing vison...which jumps to gambling..which jumps back to the signs...which jumps to armed gunmen and ends on damaged signs...

So much for concise, to the point English prose....what chance have the general population got of ever learning decent English when professional Jorno's cant compose half decent copy...

for a minute thought this article came with complements of the "Pattaya Daily New"....:whistling:

In my town we all know of 3 places that pay the bib to turn a blind eye to illegal gambling. This is throughout the Kingdom--This April the first late ??---Abhisits posters in Issan have already been painted on/defaced. Anyway WHERE are the police--on patrol NO. How the heads of police have the gall ask people not to do==TELL them they cannot. Get around and look for yourselves where the posters are--there is enough of you. Amazing

Yeah, those darn political posters! I much prefer the full billboard ads hanging directly over the freeways now in Bangkok metro where directional signs used to be!

My car was damaged yesterday with a large scratch down the side , while my wife tried to park outside a restaurant near Rama 3 , the phua thai billboard nailed to a tree with about 50 cm past the kerb side

These guys seem to not care or think of peoples property being damaged . looks like we have to pay for the repairs

Not much of a billboard if she didn't see it!

Crazy Country, Electioneering boards every 20-30 metres on footpaths, If It wasnt so obvious and risking my life I would go round and tear them down, All the stupid rules they have here but anyone can put anything on a Footpath.

I already walk in the road 50% of the time because of the vendors hijacking the footpaths now there;s this fake election to make it 100%. Cant wait until September when my contract finishes here.

and with all those housing estate signs getting in the way of the vendors who are sharing space with all the touts and beggars, im suprised there is any room left for campaign posters.

not to mention the impaired visibiltiy of the sidewalk motorbikers ducking and weaving so as not to hit all the stoopid farangs walking in the wrong direction

The penalty is worse for gambling on the election result than it is for cheating in an election. TiT.

The content of most of these political posters is a hazard to life and limb, long after they are removed or rot to dust.

now there's something we can all agree on...

Since when do average Thais care about (road) safety? They don't know what is, nor care.

Have you guys seen who are putting up the posters? They are just a bunch of poor guys with a beat up old pickup truck earning FA.

You think they care? Drive along Nawamin or Kaset-Nawamin Rds, the signs are attached to EVERY tree.

The Chuwit and vote No signs are funny to look at though, sitting in traffic.
