No, you just have to give the local police their share. :)

That's what I thought. Thank you and thanks to the other poster

selective reading that

you essentially ignored post 2 and replied to post 3 because it validated your point.

i tell my 4 year old to pick up her toys, and she doesn't hear me. i tell her i have ice cream and she comes running. see the parallell?

if you wish to continue being obtuse i can provide more examples.

I asked a question rather than as you insinuate, presenta point which required validating or not and took the best option. Your postjust happened to be number 3, if the situation were reversed then so would theanswer which is the reason I also thanked the first poster. This troll like actionis against the TV T & Cs I believe..

As for being 'obtuse', read the OP which is a single incident. I presume, certainly hope, that English is your second language so will not accuse you of abjuringyour native tongue

There is no parallel. What you think is real and what is actually real do not have to equate.

Dick,

actually my post was number 5, but, nevermind, numbers can be confusing.

I am not certain who exactly is struggling with the language here, but your last sentence makes little or no sense to me.

Home made whisky is illegal to sell or produce, easy and straightforward answer.

Seems though the OP is happy to pay off a few coppers to continue his trade rather than get a permit.

he'll learn eventually

I don't think I would want to drink in the sort of bar that sells home-made whisky. I value my eyesight.

I can already imagine the type of clientele there

So the OP is right, it is a scam, being perpetrated by his friend who is illegally selling alcohol

Then why would the police say she needs a license to sell it? We are not talking about someone with a still in their back yard. It's the stuff in the big jars with wood or something in it. Loads of bars have them.

the stuff with the wood is a kind of thai viagra. however the whisky mixed with it is illegal if bought from a local still. if your friend for example buys the licensed thai whisky, can be bought at tesco or 7, then she is free to mix it with this. just make sure she holds onto the bottles which show duty has been paid and receipts if possible.

however as the other posters have said, if it is unlicensed thai whisky then yes you can be fined.

obviously the police make up a lot of rules as they go along.

hope this helps. :jap:

It is illegal to produce and/or sell alcohol in Thailand without a license. Read this post:

http://www.thaivisa....ost__p__3851270

Has a licence

A License to sell unlicensed alcohol?

Has a bar licence which allows her to sell alcohol be it beer, spirits or cocktails. Police had no problem except for three jars which you see all over the place. Son't know what it is but it tastes like shit. Can't be moonshine in the traditional sense because as another poster pointed out because it would be 100% illegal. The issue is, why did the police say she need an additional license to sell it?

She just bought them from the local wholesaler. Thank you for the info anyway regarding what it actually is. I think it's just a tea money scam and there is no additional license required.

Upon reflection, if it not a low season tea money scam then perhaps the local wholesaler was found to be making the drink using illegal moonshine, the police went through the records to find out who had bought the product and done them too. The police wouldn't know if the buyer was in on the act or not so just fine everyone. As anyone who has ever gone into a Thai police stations know, your mind is not running on all cylnders and the cops don't go out of their way to be helpful or explain. The no permit comment may not mean that she needs an additional permit but that the whiskey was made by someone who did not have a permit to produce it. My friend just got the rough end of the stick.

Dont know whether the OP was selling lao khao or lao ya dong, where does one get a permit to sell such products legally.

The mistake the OP made was not having the police provide the product being sold.

In certain areas of BKK (eastern) there are stalls on the roadside selling lao ya dong, a gat neung at 20 baht per bottle and the 10 baht shots seem to be the most popular.

Don't need a permit (an additional one) to sell lao khao or lao ya dong anyway. Duty was paid via the seal on the side of the jar so it's just 'tea money'. Pay the 5000 Baht or get a lawyer to prove you did nothing wrong which will cost 30,000 or so. What would you do?

We must be talking about 2 different things.

"Duty was paid via the seal on the side of the jar".

I have never seen lao khao sold this way with a seal or duty paid sticker attached to the bottle.

I have heard some farangs referring to lao suea as lao khao.

Lao suea is legally sold, lao khao isnt as far as I am aware, but am always happy to be proven wrong, where are they legally selling lao khao in Thailand?

By lao khao I am referring to moonshine, made illegally and sold illegally.

Lao khao is a generic name for something which can be legal or illegal. Moonshine is just a name given to illegal whisky produced in the US but it was simply illegal whisky rather than legal whisky. I can buy legal lao khao not 200 yards from my house. I know where I can buy illegal lao khao but I wouldn't touch the stuff. Not only can it make you blind as a poster pointed out earlier, it can kill you too.
