UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA (BNO NEWS) -- At least 10 members of a family were sentenced to death by an Indian court in the state of Uttar Pradesh for killing a couple and the groom's brother in 2008, the Times of India reported on Wednesday.

Vijaya, 18, her lover Udai Pal Singh and Singh's brother Satyabhan were killed in Pilkathra village in Etah in November 2008. Vijaya's father Ramesh Pal, along with his other family members and relatives, had killed the three people.

"Ramesh Pal was against his daughter Vijaya's relationship with Udai Pal. The couple wanted to marry. Vijaya even eloped with Udai Pal," public prosecutor Rajendra Sharma told reporters in Etah.

"Later when the couple returned, Ramesh Pal with the help of his family and other relatives shot dead his daughter, her lover and lover's brother," he added.

Thirteen people were accused in the triple murder case, but one was acquitted. The remaining two are minors.

Why or how one could harm any one physically, but to kill your own child because you lost face? In defense of life and ones property i could surely understand. These people conspired to premeditated kill their own children. Does this ever happen in Thailand. I hear the mosque singing every morning so i know their are Muslims here or were they christian or Hindu? We now have these occurrences in the US with all the immigration and such but they are very rare and seldom get the death penalty. Apparently this took place in front of two minors thus passing on this family tradition. All i would ever want is for my children(If i had any)is to be happy. How does their brain work so differently?sad.gif
