At least 9 killed after gunmen attack Afghan wedding party

JALALABAD, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least nine people were killed after a group of gunmen attacked a wedding party in the eastern region of Afghanistan near the Pakistani border, officials said Thursday.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, at around 1 a.m. local time, a group of militants attacked wedding guests as they gathered at a residence in the Dor Baba district of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for Nangarhar governor, told Wakht News Agency.

Among the nine killed were the groom, his father, and his brother, Abdulzai said, adding that police forces registered the case and searched for the culprits, but they were able to flee.

In addition to the nine fatal victims, five others were seriously wounded. The gunmen remain unidentified and the reason of the attack is still unknown as officials are currently investigating the case.
