Driving To & Parking Sukhumvit Soi 15 & 10

Question for you Sukhumvit experts! I have a friend visiting from NZ for a couple of weeks and 4 of us are doing a 'road trip'!

I'm driving from Pattaya (I don't live there either) early (8am) on Sunday 12th, staying at Ruamchitt Plaza (next to Soi 15 on the North side of Sukhumvit). I've stayed at the hotel a few times previously over the past 10 years, but have never driven/ parked in the area. The hotel has told me that there is parking in Soi 10 (south side of Sukhumvit) but no details. Staying 2 nights and leaving early to drive to Ko Samui on Tuesday 14th. I've driven in Bangkok (and many other big cities) before so am not 'scared' of the traffic & I know that Sukhumvit has some strange traffic behaviour (i.e. westbound lanes are changed to eastbound and vice-versa at different times). So, my specific questions are:

1) Which would be the best approach to the area?

Heading up Sukhumvit from the east (let my passengers carry their luggage across an overbridge), or taking 'one of the expressways' past my target area and then re-approaching from the west! Drop my passengers'luggage off in front of the hotel and then attempt a U turn to get into Soi 10 for the parking?

2) Does anyone know what/ where (how far down) the parking that is available on Soi 10 is, or if not suggest an alternative?

3)Any other suggestions for alternative hotel in the immediate area with parking (at a similar price (1200Baht/ night) with parking (and Ruamchitt has a rooftop pool - which is pleasant). No deposit or CC details given when booked!

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

There is no "official"parking in soi 10. You will not see any signs but may find your car wheel locked.

Because there are no signs, i do not believe its legal, and i do not think you breaking any laws, however i lived in soi 10 and every day saw cars being locked.

My best suggestion is (however its little cheecky) drive to Sukhumvit Park Condo, its almost at the end of the soi on the left and drive into the car park. Tell security you are visiting a friend in any room that pops into your mind and they will let you through( i should also mention, security does not speak any English) and are too lazy to walk into an office to check with that unit.

There you can park every day, just take the lift down and walk out.

When you come back, ask the girl in the convenience store in the lobby to open the door for you, because you forgot your card, she will do without a question.

Your other options are to park in Times Square or Robinson, unsure what they charge.

kuffki

I like your style (alot)! As far as unit numbers, how many floors/ units per floor? Would a 502 suffice or a 2087?

I forgot about Robinson - literally next door - I'll check their parking policy/ pricing!

Any suggestions on approach to the area from Pattaya direction?

Its a 28-30 level condo with about 8-10 rooms per floor, I lived there for 5 years, but 3 years ago so memory is little rusty but go with something under 100 or just pick the floor, again security does not speak English, so they will not understand anyway.

There are 2 ways to get there.

1. Take Bang Na exit, its little longer drive, but you will come from Onnut(the correct side of the road)

2. Ding Dang exit, go down to Nana, past Nana to Asok and do a uturn at Asok to come back to soi 10

Another option you have is to park all the way down soi 10, near the Centerpoint Condo, just on the street, police too lazy to walk all the way down the soi(however not sure what has happened there, as there was vacant land, so possibly some development has started already)

kuffki - you're a diamond!

However you're Bang Na or Ding Dang options, whilst making sense, should I come in on the 3 or the 7! I'm not bothered about 30B + 30B + 45B + 45B tolls! But when i drove through from Ta Phraya (Sa kaew) to Phuket in April, the 3 expressway was empty (the road underneath was madness)! I'm also used to the oft given U turn scenario, a U turn scenario is perfect if you know that you've passed where you want to be 'on the other side of the dual carriageway'!

Maybe I should invest in a decent GPS, maybe not! I've only been lost once (geographically), and that was when I invested in an early GPS (1998), that I relied on (once)! I have mates with no sense of direction, that 'know the area' that are still not able to navigate!

Cheers again!

Take the new overpass from pattaya, it's usually clear all the way. Ding dang can get little busy, but I still prefer it over bang na, because can get stuck with bang na route, also sukhumvit road in on nut area often turns into can of sardines

The hotel directly behind Ruamchitt, The Manhattan has a small amount of parking at the front.

I'm sure you could either pay to park or stay there.

Thanks Razz, only an extra 300B per night, and still has a pool, no mention of parking on their web site, so I've mailed them to confirm

The owner of Raum Chitt plaza also owns Ruam chitt travel lodge on soi 10. About 100 meters down on the left. Set back in a bit.

I am pretty sure this is the place they are referring to, to park your car.

Soi 10 is virtualy opposit soi 15. You can U turn at soi 11 and asoke so no probs to and from yoiur car to ruam chitt plaza.

You can also go past the sukhumvit exit and take the rama 4 exit turn left on rama 4 comming back down and turn left down new rachaprisek road, Queen Siriket convention center, then left on Suk and you are on the correct side to turn down soi 10. Years driving home this way it is by far the quickest in peak traffic.

Cheers

The only thing I can contribute is that I don't think there is any place you can do a U turn on Sukhumvit near where you're talking about, Soi 15 area. There is an elevated 'nature strip' under the BTS right along there.

Ther is no Uturn at soi 15. Correct. Please see below from my previous post.

You can U turn at soi 11 and asoke (this is not soi 15) so no probs to and from yoiur car to ruam chitt plaza.
