The six-storey building along North Airport Road in Embakasi Constituency, which consists of the eastern and southeastern suburbs of Nairobi, collapsed at around 11 a.m. local time. It is situated next to the Kenya Builders Company. "So far, two people have lost their lives while six others were rescued from the collapsed building and taken to Kenyatta National Hospital," a spokesperson for the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) said. "There are fears that more people could still be trapped in the building." The relief agency said its personnel remains on the site and is working with others to coordinate the rescue and evacuation efforts. A photo from the scene showed hundreds of onlookers as rescue efforts continued. The cause of the collapse was not immediately known. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-06-14
