My friend is a us citizen who has moved from Vietnam to thailand with his Vietnamese girlfriend. They have spent 4 years trying to get married in Vietnam with no success, as they will not release the correct papers.

He has all the documents required to marry,

She has her passport and ID card as well as a divorce certificate. She does not have a house registration as this was put into the ex husbands new wife after they divorced. She also does not have a affidavit of single status from her home town, as they refused to give it to her without a huge bribe. This has been 4 years of hell for him, and he has come to Thailand to marry here. The vietnamese consul state you need;

a. Single Status Certificate obtained from your hometown’s district office

b. Household Registration Certificate

c. Birth Certificate

d. ID Card

I Have also called the embassy, and written emails on his behalf, they say come to see us with the documents and then we can tell you, as they are staying in chiang mai its not very good to go all the way there and be told the documents aren’t enough.

Would the divorce certificate be enough for the embassy or will she need to go back to Vietnam?

Any help is very much appreciated, especially if you have married a Vietnamese girl here.

You say she does not have the required document and the Consul has clearly said it is required. You can not get married here without the Embassy providing a paper and they set the conditions for issue of said paper. A Consul acts on behalf of the Embassy so there information should be definitive.

Yes, I also explained she does not have them as they do not exist in the case of the house registraion, and the single certificate she was unable to obtain without paying a large sum. She does however have other supporting documents. I appreciate your response but I am really seeking someone who has gone through the process.

You will not find somebody who has gone through the process because she doesn't have the proper papers (being single)
