I was looking at my passport the other day to see what day I would have to go to Laos. I suddenly noticed that instead of permitted to stay until 3 Aug 2011 , when I went to Nonthaburi immigration for my 60 day extension off of a ninety day non-o they put the wrong year down and it reads 2012. I know it's wrong but will the guy stamping me out of the country know it's wrong. What pops up on the computer when you leave the country. Did they use the wrong stamp on all my documents and does this mean that on a computer somewhere I'm down till 2012. Any one else had this happen to them and what happened. Part of me thinks go along with it and just see what happens. Have to pay 20,000 if I can't do it which would be less than the visa runs. Any ideas ?

You already know the answer - go and get it changed. 20,000 baht might be cheaper than visa runs, unless you happen to get a passport check for some minor incident !!! will it be cheaper than 20,000 baht then ?? Remember hindsight is wonderful and if something happens then you will wish you sorted it when you could jap.gif

Obviously there is no 14 month extension of stay for anything so yes it will likely be found out and any check after the allowed 60 days could get you jail. If you would overstay regardless no big difference. But if you would normally abide by the laws this mistake should not be taken as anything other than overstay. We are responsible for knowing the rules and abiding by them. Your TM.7 clearly said 60 days and that had your signature on it.

can't see how a police check would hurt because they would just look at the stamp and see permitted to stay until the date shown. How do they know any different ? Anyone had anything like this happen to them before ?

the 90 day T.M. card date would have gone a long time before the end of the 60 days. Does anyone actually know what comes up on the screen when you leave the country. Is it just your entry date or what ?

would the guy stamping me out actually recognise that it was an overstay seeing how it has a genuine stamp from Nonthaburi immigration ?

The TM.7 was what you applied for your extension of stay with and has nothing to do with 90 days. Your full history is available on computer if they wish to view it (some travelers have been amazed at the details officer has provided them).

After reading your last three responses its obvious that you've already made up your mind.... . why keep up the charade or wanting opinions? Good Luck!

Police check your passport - realise have wrong stamp, therefore you are on overstay !!!! - Off to the local nick for a few days, then court, then immigration, then deportation - doesn't hurt but very inconvenient and costly ohmy.gif

No, it's not like that. I've got six weeks to make a decision so I just want to find out as much as I can. Does anyone have any first hand experience of something like this ?

Has anyone got away with it ? Do they ever fuc_k up ?

:whistling:

I don't know if you will get caught or not...but I do know it's a fool's gamble.

If you don't get caught what will you gain except a good story to tell other people?

If you do get caught you will lose 20K Baht at the very least. And you could concieveably spend some time in the immigration lockup.

So why would you even make such a silly bet? If you win you win nothing of any real value, if you lose you lose a lot. That's why it's a fool's gamble.
