June 22, 201115 yr My Thai wife's niece has a daughter that is five years old and in the school she attends they have just started introducing her to computers. I would like her to get a head start in learning English and since there are no English teachers in the area where she lives that can speak even remotely passable English I want to find the best PC programme on the market. Any suggestions would be most helpful - thanks!
June 22, 201115 yr Don't know about software, but I'm sure there is plenty of it. I would recommend starfall.com as well as sesamestreet.com, bbckids etc. These sites offer lots of good, free English activities and games for young learners.
June 22, 201115 yr british council have a good website for kids that age, lots of interactive stuff on there. http://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/en/ Try asking in the teachers forum.
June 22, 201115 yr Author Sorry to state the bleeding obvious but...why don't you teach her? Because I live three hours away. Would probably stretch anyones dedication. Maybe a mod would be so kind as to move this thread to the teacher's forum?
June 22, 201115 yr I think there are now some good online options, take a look at this: My link As far as software is concerned I faced a similar problem a while back with my niece, I really didn't anything that lived up to its own hype. There was a far better way, we put a load of programs from TV Channels like CBeebies on dvds and sent those out, not only worked for our niece but half the kids in the village ! If you have no one who can do that for you then pm me and I will tell you how to do it from LOS. Believe me, this works, by far the most effective way of getting kids to learn English, they are engrossed in the programs and associate the action with the words. When you've stood at the back of a room and watched half a dozen Thai kids shout "The mouse wants some cheese" in response to "What does the mouse want" you know your getting somewhere !
