Maybe he would be sitting in a better position had he not kept on and on about the negative of the other party and concentrated on the positives about his own party...

Abhisit has only "kept on and on about the negative of the other party" in the past week or so. The UDD / Pheu Thai have been spewing hatred and contempt for over 2 years via their regular rallies and every day on their radio stations and TV channels.

For the rich old money elite it is indeed Abhisit or paying taxes and adhere to a scoiety that has progressed a century.

For the other elite it's PTP or being left out again <_<

The voters are not stupid.

Pheu Thai voters are.

They know they were better off 5 years ago. That they had more money, more freedom, less poltical upheavel and a better economy.

What proportion of rural folk know about the global financial crisis and its effects on Thailand, and the world financial markets including the causes of oil price fluctuations and its effect on prices of goods? I think a lot of the simple rural folk don't even read or watch world news and simply blame the government for higher living costs when in reality the Thai government did not cause the global financial crisis nor do they have control over world oil prices.

Also keep in mind that six years of Thaksinomics relied on an economical boom. With no more 'boom' things were bound to come down.

Chavalit says Pheu Thai has the right to bring Thaksin back; says Democrats shouldn't try to form govt if it doesn't win most seats / TAN_Network

Anyone has the right to bring Thaksin back, as long as he goes to jail.

If PTP don't get a majority, do they still think they should be able to whitewash Thaksin's crimes (even though it isn't their priority, and they aren't just doing it for one man).

Chavalit also doesn't understand parliamentary democracy. It's not who gets the most seats. It's who can get the support of the majority of seats.

still 15 years of other governments...and why thaksin would educate them? he just had their confidence....he was elected...twice....

The interesting part is 'why would Thaksin educate them, he just had their confidence'. Very true and straightforward.

Why disillusion them with something like education, education just creates unrest.

The Romans already knew it, 'bread and games' keep the plebs happy <_<

I not a red shirt supporter....i know well the thaksin government as i was there when he was elected...just the democrat supporters spit on isaan people face, tell them they are buffalo and know nothing about politic.

What they do not understand is that now red people use their right to vote...and not vote for them...democrats had many times the chance to educate them, you know, just to win the elections...but no, they prefer to say they are stupid and should not vote....

So if democrat wants to win why not educate them...

Thaksin is a populist, he uses what he think good for his own purpose and the isaan people vote for him, why he had to educate them? to lose next election?

Abhisit supporters, PAD, and other still think othey can win with minority? only if backed by army....

SOM NAM NA democrats...you want to win, take care of people who are not already on your side instead of ignore them and call them e-dam

go figure why people even on this board think analyse a fact which is not in favor of Abhisit means red supporter....go figure...

Thaksin was in power for 5 years (and then another year with PPP), and did nothing to improve their education, but they still complain that the Democrats did nothing in only 2 years, even though they brought in a policy to have 15 years of free education. And they want to go back to Thaksin.

Actually, I think it will be chaos either way.

Pheu Thai have already threatened a couple of times that the red shirts will be out protesting if they can't form government.

And I'm quite confident the yellows shirts will be out in strength if Pheu Thai start changing laws to whitewash Thaksin's crimes.

Are the riots starting in 2-3 weeks or in 3-4 months?

That is the only real question,

There will be no reconciliation.

There will only be screaming and ranting about what the other side is doing to them. Or about to do and must be stopped.

or 2-3 days??

Not until after the MP's vote and pick which way the chips will fall.

One way or another the hatchet jobs will be spewing chips before during and after,

Then why not pick the Democrats, who did something for education in 2 years, instead of Thaksin's party, who did nothing about education in 5 (6) years?

"Her only concern was whether she could find a public bus to take her and her friends back home."

Maybe the government has not invested enough in public transport..?

perhaps the thaksin government should not have valued the tea money more than the process of bus selection under our old friend samak

You not understand, do you?

Why democrats who was in power for decade did nothing before? why they just wake up now and say> "oh yes we care of everybody"? why they spend billions for army and useless material? why they put the free healthcare just now? why not before? why they take care of the eldery now? why not before? 2 years is sure not enough to educate people, especially when those people are now kids and will vote in 5 or 6 years? why the universities are so expensive for a good education?

Why trust someone who arrived in power after a coup and a government who was not elected? Just for this the thaksin supporters will vote for PTP...

Thaksin is much more clever in this game, he had the time to understand how to come in power, what the people want to hear...now the democrats just wake up...and did nothing before for them...so why choose them?

If you not understand populism you should see his western counterpart : Berlusconi, he is as bad as him and was elected and re elected.

More than that the other problem of thailand is the gap between wealthy and poors, this gap become wider and wider every year

So, after the Democrats did nothing for a decade, Thaksin comes along and does nothing for 5 years. And somehow that's different.

You're right. It's about popularism. Thaksin did nothing, but made it look like he was doing nothing. And they love him for it.

Sure that s different...Thaksin is now backed by the majority of isaan people, and obivously more than half of thai....that s how it s different. The difference between thaksin and democrats is that thaksin made them think he will take care of them while democrats just ignored them for a decade, they opened the door for a guy like him

The total of the Isaan people is about a third of the Thai population. So just a majority (70% in some polls) isn't really enough, is it. And it obviously isn't half the Thai population.

TRT didn't get a majority in their first election. They got a majority in the second election after smaller parties joined them. The PPP only got a third of the votes in the 2007 election, and since then have lost more support with the BJT splitting off from them.

So, getting a majority of the vote tomorrow will not be easy for them. Getting a large proportion is a given. But it just shows that a large proportion of the voters don't know how much they've been scammed by him.

Would Yingluck be able to answer such questions?

Not a chance. I doubt she will even expose herself to serious international press. That would be very bad for Thailand economically to have such a vapid puppet representing this great country to the world. The old saying, people get the government they deserve. It is clear that Thailand doesn't deserve a PM as decent as Abhisit. No, he isn't perfect, but he was operating in dangerous times, and I predict he will be remembered as one of the greatest PM's in Thai history. I also don't expect him to be the next PM, though that's not the same as predicting Yingluck will be either (but more likely her).

I am not affiliated with any Thai party, but between Abhisit and Yingluck/Thaksin yes I would choose Abhisit as would a vast majority of expats in Thailand.

How about doing a poll? Oh wait, you already did a poll.

Thankfully it doesn't matter what expats think. Expats by and large care about themselves, and their access to all the good deals available in Thailand, some of which are exploitive in nature.

Fortunately there is a sizable minority on Thaivisa.com who is not adverse to the concept of empowering the poor, and respecting their choices and aspirations.

Not speaking for them. I have evidence. Where is yours? I've never seen a poll of expats EVER showing different results than this.
