Three policemen injured in Kabul blast

2011-07-03 22:31:08 GMT+7 (ICT)

KABUL (BNO NEWS) -- Three policemen were injured on Sunday in a bomb blast in the Afghan capital Kabul, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.

Police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai said the explosion took place near a police checkpoint in the Deh Mazang Square area, injuring three policemen. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Initial investigation indicates that a mortar shell landed in the area. "The blast was not heavy but there was smoke in the area for a few minutes," a passerby, Ahmad Mujtaba, said.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast. An investigation is underway.

Thirteen civilians were killed on early Saturday morning when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southeastern Afghanistan. Two children were among those killed.

On Thursday, 20 people were killed when a roadside bomb struck a passenger bus in the Khash Rod District of Afghanistan's southwestern province of Nimroz. Another roadside bomb destroyed a vehicle in Helmand province, killing a mother, father, and their four children.
