I personally am getting fed up with having to try and find a thread that hasnt either been started or been hijacked with politics.

I come on Thai visa as an escape from the politics that are going on, and if i wanted to hear more about politics i would go to the bear pit, which is where i personally believe all these postings, topics and members belong.

If the 2 posters concerned want to have their won private little war then go and do it somewhere else as i am sure i am not the only one who is fed up with this.

Agreed Daleyboy. Not sure if the guys you mean, :o do it as a wind up or for political reasons. If it's a political thread, fair enough but hijacking a non political thread is out of order. Me thinks :D

:o you mentioned another forum!

aside from tits and politics (which includes america bashing....) what else is there?

Well, this topic is whinging.....that's different....maybe we need more whinging and less politics.....no way am I going to suggest a reduction in tits....hahahahahahaha

I agree that the majority of the political posts should be made in the Pit rather than here. Of course relevant discussions are welcome but off topic Bush bashing etc should be elsewhere.

Thing is harry we know their political leanings, we have had to put up with their leanings for long enough, we dont need to have it shoved down our throats on a daily basis.

I do also feel that political posturing and propagandising should find another place than Thaivisa.

I made this point in a posting several months ago.

However it does seem more than a little curious that right wing views have been allowed to flourish for nearly 5000 postings, yet when there is some opposition to these views, complaints begin to be made.

That in itself is a political statement.

Especially when some of those complaining have been in conflicting situations on Thaivisa concerning their idea of “fun” i.e. ridiculing those who are different from themselves.

I fully realize that Thaivisa is not the BBC and has no mandate to be even-handed.

However in the interests of not being labelled politically biased, should Thaivisa begin to enforce a ban on political postings, this should apply equally to the right, as to the left.

After all, as Tits get bigger, Thaivisa will need more disk space.

It's fine - this is bedlam, so anything goes. Plus gives Boonie a nicer place to post. :o

Appreciate where you're coming from daleyboy. Sometimes it can get a downright repetitive with all the political comments infiltrating almost every thread created in Bedlam, but I voted for the "Is it ok to have bedlam overtaken with political postings?" option. For the reason why, I'll give you two examples:

For the Gun Control thread I started a while back, I realised that even though there may be hundereds of valid arguments why gun control might be a good or bad idea, I learnt that very few Americans would give up the right to bear arms because they wouldn't trust the next man to do the same.

During the Katrina disaster, it was pointed out that not all blame (though still a very substantial amount) lay with the current administration. Quite a few blunders were made by the mayor and the local police force.

(For the sake of keeping this thread on track, feel free to quote the above and take it up in the relevant threads – thanks.)

In other words, although you often have to shovel through a lot of <deleted>, a few valid points do come out of it in the end, which makes it all worth a read…

You forgot the option: "Some politics is ok but turning a non-political topic political should result in deleted posts":o

Daleyboy,

I see where your thread is coming from but I voted for the last option. If I see something on TV that dosen't intrest me then I will not read it, thats the great thing about having choices and a free world :o

There are many topics and posts on TV that people will disagree with but isn't this a public forum? There are bound to be some mixed opinions.

And if it is just two main posters ever though about using the magic button? :D

Thats all well and good ice, but they weedle their way into alot of threads that were never intended to be political but end up that way. As for the magic button it is used but they are still taking up bandwidth that could actually be used for Thailand related matters rather than ego boosting matters.

I think the political topics are ok for bedlam, but its true when you have a non political topic and its dragged into politics by the same old crew then mods should be on the case and sorting it out.

I don't see why threads are often allowed to go so far off topic here, there are a lot of people in Bedlam now and its becoming a lot busier all the time, perhaps it is time to control it a bit more?

I guess that is down to the moderators then. I'm sure if this went on outside of bedlam it wouldn't be allowed but it's all down to bedlam being less moderated. Like bkkmadness has just posted maybe this is time for a little more moderating to suit the growing population?

And as for taking up bandwidth I'm sure these two are not the only ones. I'm sure they'd have something to say about this thread :o

Why don't we use a rating system...you put anywhere from one to five stars (asstearrisks) in the title which will indicate how much political intrusion you will tolerate.....you put anywhere from one to five of these guys '@' to indicate how much humor you will tolerate.....you put anywhere from one to five of these guys '&' to indicate how much deviation from the topic you will tolerate....AND ....on the first page of every post you put a list of posters you would prefer not post at all and a list of posters you would like to respond...anyone not on the two lists can either post or not at their own discretion. Then, everyone who posts uses the same symbols to indicate how they would like the responses to be for their posts which then goes into effect UNLESS the original poster posts within 2 minutes of said post and overrules the response filter change. If someone other than the original poster posts within two minutes of any post (and thus not allowing the op to overrule) then they will be called 'offsides' and the op will be allowed a free kick.

This should solve the problem.

I not quite sure about that idea Chownah. Welcoming certain members to post and certain members to not is surely discrimination? I think all members should be able to reply to threads and posts but when it is taken too far then the moderators should come in.

Bedlam is supposed to be a more relaxed forum than the rest so why don't we keep it that way? Having systems here would take that away. I think mods should just intervene when threads are taken over or when posts have gone to far.

Just my opinion though.
