Why don't we use a rating system...you put anywhere from one to five stars (asstearrisks) in the title which will indicate how much political intrusion you will tolerate.....you put anywhere from one to five of these guys '@' to indicate how much humor you will tolerate.....you put anywhere from one to five of these guys '&' to indicate how much deviation from the topic you will tolerate....AND ....on the first page of every post you put a list of posters you would prefer not post at all and a list of posters you would like to respond...anyone not on the two lists can either post or not at their own discretion.  Then, everyone who posts uses the same symbols to indicate how they would like the responses to be for their posts which then goes into effect UNLESS the original poster posts within 2 minutes of said post and overrules the response filter change.  If someone other than the original poster posts within two minutes of any post (and thus not allowing the op to overrule) then they will be called 'offsides' and the op will be allowed a free kick.

This should solve the problem.

I not quite sure about that idea Chownah. Welcoming certain members to post and certain members to not is surely discrimination? I think all members should be able to reply to threads and posts but when it is taken too far then the moderators should come in.

Bedlam is supposed to be a more relaxed forum than the rest so why don't we keep it that way? Having systems here would take that away. I think mods should just intervene when threads are taken over or when posts have gone to far.

Just my opinion though.

Bad idea? Maybe keep the symbols but forget the lists of names? I certainly wouldn't want to discriminate openly.

I'm still going with having the moderators to intervene when necessary when things get too out of hand. I don't think everyone putting symbols in their posts would last to be honest but it's a nice idea Chownah.

amazing Thailand

this tread was closed at afternoon

now re-open

i need to read all again , i reckon

:o

I say go to the Bearpit to commence all political rants. That is the sole reason the Bearpit was created and it should be used as such.

I thought the bearpit was where all bollotix threads should be redirected to but if the topic is relevant to thailand for example then it should stay but the abundence of bush crap is just ott IMO as most of us aren't American & couldn't give a baboons red bum what George W or the US governemnt do anyway. :o

You know life is a funny old thing - with all sorts of choices.

Most of us – in fact I will go so far as to say, over 99% of us on Thaivisa – live in societies that pride themselves on their freedom of choices.

For example, out of all the choices a member could make to amuse themselves: go to a bar; make love; see a film; read a book; listen to music; play a computer game – the list can be endless – some choose to ignore these alternatives, and open Thiavisa Forum.

Here the choice is also almost limitless. You can read and write your opinions on many subjects: from Thai News to Visas, through Thai Food or Sport or Radio or Buddhism or Homosexuality. You can even discuss Night Life and Pubs or Health, Body and Medicine and tell Jokes– but there is no point in listing everything – we all know what is there.

In all of these forums, the moderators keep an eye on the postings, admonishing or deleting posters should they stray from the guidelines, the forum rules or if a posting becomes unnecessarily political in its nature.

All members are free to choose a forum, participate, knowing full well they will not be embarrassed or confronted with ideas that may offend them.

And then there is Bedlam. Free from strict moderation, although expecting all to hold Forum Rules (and requiring a qualification of 500 postings).

Just look at some of the threads you can choose from here: Tits; Female binge drinking; Fun with pictures; Jasmine Rice; Best short joke this year etc.

Given this choice of activities for entertainment, could someone, please, explain to me how it is that some members feel obliged to ignore all other alternatives and choose Thaivisa Forum; then from the realm of choices on Thaivisa they choose Bedlam and then they just happen to choose to open obvious political threads?

Not only do they open them, but they then spend time and effort, telling everyone how offended they are. Then they try through the technique of “vox pop” to prevent others from posting political threads in the one place on Thaivisa Forum where these are tolerated.

This method of behaving suggests to me, not an aversion for political postings, but more an obsession for hounding out anything beyond their own comprehension.

An obsession with ideas they do not like, that is closer to a perversion than an aversion.

Well Politics is a part of life and there should be a place for politics.

However, I agree that hi jacking of threads and turning them into the same old Bush is Great/Bush is evil stuff is tiresome!

I am not against the odd posting about politics but just look at the topics on the first page of bedlam

Why Muslims Reject British Values

Saddam Hussein's Trial

Afraid Of Americans

Warm-up To Iran War

You Might Be A Redneck

Jaw Dropper Of The Day

Saddam Has Killed Fewer Iraqis Than Bush...

You Might Be A Republican

So almost half the topics on the first page are about politics, which 60% of the population of bedlam dont want to read and dont want on the forum.

So lets bring some politics into this and let democracy rule, and the majority say take it to the pit.

The dictionary definition of Bedlam is

A place or situation of noisy uproar and confusion.

often Bedlam Archaic. An insane asylum.

(taken from dictionary.com)

Now i take that to mean that this place we call bedlam is intended for insanity and confusion, not the carefully thought about and planned campaigns of political wannabes, that the people down their local pub have heard enough of so they bring it here and force it upon the members in this room, surely that was why the pit was thought of and opened so the rest of us didnt have to read threads that were either started or hijacked by political posters.

Why do you oppose going into the Bearpit? It is there for a reason and no one will complain if you post political topics there.

Don't know 'bout y'all but take one of the so-called offensive threads one whinger is croaking on about - Saddam's Trial. Get ready, 'cause that one is more than your 'garden-variety' political thread.

The Trial hasn't even officially begun yet. :o

Agreed with Boo... If it´s not thai related, or about sex, then it should bugger off....

thomas merton, you have to be one of the most guilty of highjacking threads and you have the gaul to say anything. Take your PC crappe somewhere else or are you still unable to understand when a topic is started that is supposed to be "funny pics and funny captions". :o:D

Certainly the moderators are the only ones who can intervene...I was just thinking of how I could make their jobs easier.....if we used the symbols then the moderators could just say that the poster made them do it and this way people wouldn't have such animosity towards moderators. Besides...symbols look really cool, don't you think. If you don't like the symbols for aesthetic reasons then maybe we could create some new smiley type characters...maybe little flags...you know like the no smoking symbol of a cigarette in a circle with a red line across it...if we don't want right wingers to post then we'd put a swastica with a line through and if we didn't want left wingers to post we'd put a hammer and sickle with a line through and if we don't want any sexual inuendo we'd use a willie for men and a minge for women....I know...let's start a contest!!! to see who can create the best symbols to express these things.....what do you think?

daleyboy,

In your post you list the topics you don't like and indicate how we can see how political they are by just reading their titles.....it is obvious to me that you know the threads you don't like by just reading the topics....why don't you just not look at them.....I've been trying to follow this discussion to see if there is anything that can be done to accomodate you but it has become absolutely clear to me that you know full well what threads you don't like and if you want to banish these topics then you are a censor and nothing more.....if you know you don't like a thread then don't go there...don't try to take away some one else's toys...go play with your own toys...there is no shortage of toys in TV in spite of the people who want to censor what is posted

I think it's all Boon Me fault :o

He keeps showing his love for the Muslims and Bush and the rest of the world.

And of course everybody else want to show him their love of Bush and the rest of America

Heres a radical idea. How about self-moderation by those who are the worst offenders???? If the topic isn't political why don't you just think twice before posting and leave it non-political? You can then start your own thread or, as has been suggested, move to the bearpit.

A radical idea indeed :o

I just wish that forum software allowed for topic starters to moderate their own topics in sub-forums where that was activated. Would end the hijacking of threads and give some interesting insights into the tolerance levels of individuals.

Good suggestion sbk, the only snag I see here is when there is a topic of current interest, who is to define what is a 'political' comment or rebuttal?

The Moderators.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to give the patients any control over bedlam. :o Hey howabout giving us the ability to electroshock each other? That would be telling.

I like this idea.

If it could be arraigned that those who accidentally clicked on a thread called Saddam Hussein thinking the topic was about sexual parts, could receive an electrical shock - thus preventing them from being offended.

It might help, because they certainly can't read.

Do you think that is what's going on in North Korea? I hear Kim Jong-il is whacky.

Your right Chownah i do avoid reading these threads because they have no interest to me. I prefer to get my news first hand off of bbc news rather than second hand of a bar room politician, what i am really objecting to here are the hijacked threads that didnt start out as political threads.

The perpetrators know who they are and i am sure they wouldnt appreciate it if we invaded their oh so interesting political threads with pictures of tits and willies, so why must they do it consistently to other people threads?

I am not trying to take any ones toys away but there is a special place for them to go and play with themselves sorry i mean their toys and that is the bearpit, surely that is why the pit was opened in the first place.

Well I do agree that threads do get hijacked and I am against it although I'd rather allow some off topic commenting...within reason...but I think that most bedlam posters do allow for this already.....thank you for refocusing me on your concern...I see that I was a bit off track. I think that if we (all the bedlam posters) kind of work together to inform someone when we think they are over the line (I go there sometimes myself....my mood varies just like most everyone else here) then we could do alot to straighten it out. If I was irritated because someone was hijacking a thread then I would make a post saying what I thought and specifically asked for others who agree to post their agreement....I think that this would be enough.....I really do.....The next time you think a thread is being hijacked and you want it to stop how about if you try it? I can usually be relied on to support these kinds of things....if I don't agree with your wants I'll at least politely explain why. I think alot of it goes on now because no one has made an issue of it and it has just sort of evolved as an accepted style....with your input it could probably evolve in another direction. I do think that the statement posted to indicate that the topic is being hijacked should be humor free and insult free to help everyone concerned adopt a rational frame of mind before proceeding.

The perpetrators know who they are and i am sure they wouldnt appreciate it if we invaded their oh so interesting political threads with pictures of tits and willies, so why must they do it consistently to other people threads?

Absolutely right Daleyboy, my suggestion is, if they do it again, we start posting piccies of Tits, all over the place :D:D

Seriously though, we are all grown up's :o and i think we should be able to "Self Moderate" (as in SBK suggestion). Your'e right, the perpetrators do know who they are. Why don't we all just agree, funny threads are exactly that and political threads are exactly that.

What are you doing chownah? This is a serious thread are you trying to hijack it and make it into a funny thread? :D

Anyway theres no need to post picture of tits in their threads you just need to look at the avatars to see plenty of tits :D

Nail on the head, Thomas! :o

.... If it´s not thai related, or about sex, then it should bugger off....

Just for clarification KO, do you mean:

"If it´s not thai related, or if it's about sex, then it should bugger off"

OR do you mean:

"If it´s not thai related, or if it's not about sex, then it should bugger off.

English punctuation is quite critical when joining "ifs" and "ands" together. :D

I think you mean the first option - so what's wrong with pictures of tits? Every second person has them. :D
