We are considering to offer a position for a European intern. Will he/she need a work permit, and are there simplified procedures for interns?

Any time limitations for this kind of visa/WP, such as: No longer than 3/6/12 months?

An intern requires a WP if it is not part of his study in Thailand.

Bummer. That means having to pay a minimum salary of THB 50,000/month (for a European), plus all the hassle applying for the WP... Naw.

Not sure about that, many companies have interns and I don't think that they all pay the mimumum required salary. Don't forget, the mimum salary requirement is from immigration to get a 1 year extension of stay, not to get a work permit. It would of course be 90 day border runs.

Don't think the minimum salary is an issue, you can pay them nothing if you wish, but it's the WP that is the problem as they will need one to work here (paid or unpaid). That is assuming of course that you wish to do things "properly".

I will check with one of the foreign chambers that promote taking up interns.

I would neither want to pay for, nor expect from an intern to do, border runs. That's just stupid. Either Thai law allows interns or they don't. Chasing them out of the country every three months is beyond my understanding.
