Aus-Phuket/Phuket-Aus

Featured Replies

I travel between Phuket and Australia at least twice a month and sometimes more, Ive all ways got lists of things people want from both countries, Generally when I come from Aus I get requests for wine, Tim Tams, ETA BBQ sauce, Tetleys all rounder tea, Milo, Duty free- including perfume ciggarettes and spirits, Also very popular is OMEGA 3 and vitamin C as these items are generally more expensive in Phuket.

Going the other way from Phuket to Australia its normally T-shirts, sunglasses, silk scarves, even bum guns, and sometimes some herbal bedroom performance enhancers for the old fellas. I basically add on a little bit of beer money for myself but definately never anything extreme.

Ive been caught out a couple of times when I have had people relocate at either end but generally i can use the gear myself anyways

I all ways travel with a pretty empty bag and i was just wondering if anyone had some items they were in desperate need of at either endjap.gif

(Im not sure if i will get kicked off the forum for this...its more of a little freindly service for the expats and not a multinational transport business)

Absolut Berri Acai Vodka...it runs about 750THB in duty free. It's the best fruit-infused vodka I have tasted. When is your next trip? How do I get the money to you-bank transfer? I live in Nai Harn, so no problem to pick it up in Chalong. Let me know on this thread or message me. Thanks! :)

Aren't all the things that you mention bringing from Aus to Phuket readily available here for roughly the same price. I have just returned from 2 trips from Aus and couldnt think of anything particular to bring back. Ended up with a big pack of beef sausages from Woolworths....

Perth WA, Wine at the normal liquor stores is cheaper than duty free at the airport

I usually think that duty free is a bit of a rip-off....it seems they remove the duty and then put the price up. The good thing is that duty free quite often has spirits that aren't sold in high street stores. Jack Daniels Silver, single barrel etc

Available in pretty much all duty free though so not AUS specific.

Fair play though...its nice to offer things to fellow members, wasn't trying to shoot you down for a good deed

It's much cheaper at the liquor stores than direct from the vineyard that makes it! :o

In the past I've tasted, and liked, wine at the source, and then stocked up on it from a shop after returning to the city.

yes australian duty free is a rip off....im sitting in singapore airport now....just purchased a bottle of absolute vodka for amyb for the princley sum of $24 singapore (yes its the one you can only buy in duty free pomygrand or something similar with blue bubbles on the bottle)....exactly the same bottle at Brisbane airport $30 australian. Australian wine and smokes cheaper in Singapore airport than australia....carton of winnie blues $28. Wines i dont know too much about but your normal run of the mill stuff cheaper in singas. The Chartoueu a la cardboard is obvioulsy cheaper in bottle shops in Oz

Amyb I'll stash that bottle with daeng this afternoon, just chalk one up for me...san miguel light.

Love a free beer more than anythingjap.gif

Conclusions.

1.Nothing beats Australian Rexona men Sport 48 hour deoderant, nothing!!!

Thai NIvea or other crap branded sprays work for about 30 mins and then i'm wet.

2.

Australian Milo is spectacular compared to the shredded up, dried cat shit excuse they call Milo in Asia.

3.

Tim Tams, Asia Market Tim Tams have a warning on the packet 'Not to be sold in Australia or NZ'

I think it's due to the chocolate quality and Australians won't accept those as quality.

I could go on but i'd be accused of whinging and told to go home if i don't like it.

I got a nice list for you next time snamos.

Singapore duty free is a lot cheaper than Perth duty free and you are allowed to take it onto the plane

Duty free in Thailand is a lot cheaper also but you are not allowed to take liquids onto the plane even though

you have gone through all the security checks and are in a secure area, strange ruling as far as i am concerned

Sure you can take liquids on the plane.Simply buy from duty free and they will then put what you bought into a sealed duty free bag. Take a look at the HKT departure duty free and you'll see a queue of people buying duty free booze. I've also done this within the past month on a trip to Indonesia.

Unless they have changed the rules which i doubt, You cannot take duty free booze on the plane if travelling to Australia from Thailand

I have tried several times and been told you cannot by the duty free staff

If i could i would have saved a lot of money

checked by customs, they would say one is ok, 2 is to much, and 15 you are fined or possibly worse
