Hi,

I havent been on thai visa in a long time now and have a few questions and hopefully get some answers.

Well my thai driving license expires this weekend on the 16th July 2011 and was wondering if I need to renew it before it expires or is it ok if its a week or so over due before renewing?

Also when I do reply for my renewal of my thai license will it be a 5 year licence now?

Cheers

Hi,

I recently got my 5 year Thai licence renewed after it had expired by about 3 weeks.IE in other words I had to start from the beginning again (get a brand new Thai licenece. Not a renewal)

The process took about 2 hours.

Documents they asked me for were: old expired Thai 5 yr licence, passport, Work permit.

I had to do 2 different eye tests, a reaction test, and watch a one hour info programme on rules and regs and a drama type movie (all in Thai but with English sud-titles).

Then back down stairs to get photo taken and received new plastic 7 year licence.

Armed with brand new Thai licence (as well as passport and WP), I immediately applied for and received a new international DL.

The 2 hours spent there was boring and the movie put me to sleep, but the main woman I dealt with was friendly, nice and efficent (unfortunately the 3 other women I dealt with were unhappy, impatient souls).

In the end however, I got what I wanted.

I don't know if I had not let my old licence expire whether I would have had to go through this lengthy process to renew it. But, as a suggestion I would do it before expirery date.

I recently renewed it too.. but we went to a smaller station and we did not have to sit through any tests or watch any movies. According to the wife we would have if we went to the bigger stations. Saved us a lot of time, and no bribes.
