SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- American actor Roberts Blossom, who is best known for playing 'old man Marley' in the 1990s comedy "Home Alone", has died in California. He was 87.

The actor died on July 8 at a nursing home in Santa Monica, his daughter Deborah told the New York Times. KTLA-TV on Thursday said that Blossom died of natural causes.

Blossom, who was born in Connecticut in 1924, played roles in more than 50 movies and TV series. He won a Soapy Award for Favorite Villain in 1978 for his role in the 1964 movie "Another World".

But Blossom was best known for his role as the snow-shoveling 'Old Man Marley' in the 1990s Christmas comedy film 'Home Alone'. The movie remains one of the highest grossing live-action comedies of all time.

Blossom, whose first marriage ended in divorce and the second with the death of Marylin Orshan in 1982, is survived by daughter Deborah and son Michael.
