I'm interested in having some new clothing sent to me here in Bangkok from America. At what value point will customs be asking me for duty? I'm probably going to order a little under $200 worth.

ROFL I am at the moment waiting for a DHL delivery from UK. The box contains a pair of Karrimor boots costing 2384.85 baht , I had to pay 1757.15 baht for customs and vat :(

I have read on this forum before that anything couriered (i.e. UPS, DHL) is flagged for tax as its likely to be of higher value.

Your best option not to pay tax might be to have the shipment sent over as normal post. Even better, to have them delivered to a friend at home and have them remove the labels before posting them.

My brother had something similar happen with clothes from the UK, they were a good price online but not after the customs here got hold of them.......

I don't understand why people bother, almost everything can be bought in BKK?? maybe pricey but still cheaper than paying customs...

Actually i buy most of my stuff online and as long as UPS or DHL are not used it usually gets through untaxed. (depending on the size of the shipment of course).

Just bought some fishing line from the USA it would have been 3 to 4 times as expensive as when i bought it here. It really pays of to buy outside of Thailand.

Interesting, do you just use regular postal service from whatever country and get a friend or relative to post to you? I have done this in the past also but would not like to do it with something of any value incase it goes missing....

Maybe because i am not in a tourist areau. I have bought loads of items on ebay and just 1 went missing. But that could have gone missing somewhere else too.

My experience is those sellers that don't use fed ex or DHL but normal standard mail (even signed for) is that there are no taxes on it. I just received 100 led light floats from China (too many but in bulk they were much cheaper) and they used DHL and sure enough i was taxed. Around 800 baht. Not too bad. But i have received much stuf from the UK and USA and was never taxed (as long as neither DHL UPS or FED ex were used)
