Bomb blast kills 5 in northern Afghanistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- At least five people were killed during a bomb explosion in the northern region of Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday.

A man riding a bicycle that had an explosive device placed on it in the Dash-i-Shor area on the outskirts of Mazar-i-Sharif city, which is located in Afghanistan's northern province of Balkh, crashed into a van at around 12 p.m. local time, a police officer told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The blast killed five people, Mazar-i-Sharif Civil Hospital chief Dr. Haidar confirmed after receiving the bodies, adding that 15 others were injured, including five children and one woman. Police spokesman Sher Jan Durani, however, said four people were killed and 14 injured.

No further information was available.
