You can't afford to pay entry level unskilled, untrained employees a "living wage" and still make money. Today, a "living wage" is $50K and up. Way up if you're in California. That's always been a business conundrum. When we first hire you, we aren't allowed to pay you what you're worth because of minimum wage laws. We lose money on you until you're trained and seasoned. If you're one of the ones that never catch on, you're a net loss. And then we get sued if we fire you. That's why there were always starter jobs like Mickey D's. And even if you get real good at flipping burgers, they still can't afford $50-100K. -
