Thai Going To Macau

Featured Replies

How many days do a Thai get on arrival? Do you get new days just by leaving the country and coming back the same day? Or how long do you have to leave the country to get a new period of stay? Cheers!

If I remember correctly Thais get 30 days on arrival and if you go to Hong Kong for the day another 30 days on return.

Thais get 30 days on arrival, anything over this requires a visa.

I don't know if you can circumnavigate this rule by simply popping over to Hong Kong and back on a regular basis, but this lift from the Macau SAR Government website indicates it might be problematical:

Non-residents will be refused entry to the Macau Special Administrative Region for the following reasons:

1)Attempting to evade the regulation on stay and residence and having frequent entries to the Macao Special Administrative Region within short intervals without appropriate justification;

Thanks! The "frequent entries to the Macao Special Administrative Region" is interesting. Is doing a day trip to Hong Kong and returning only one time counted as "frequent"? Thant is you basically stay for two months. Anyone has any experience?

Most Western countries get 3 months on arrival, but for some reason we British get 6 months! I can understand 6 months for Hong Kong, but Macau? Even the Portuguese only get 3 months!

Yes, that is interesting too. Maybe you should start a topic and discuss that there. I was asking about Thai people going to Macau back to back.

When was this that you heard of a Thai getting new 30 days when reentering Macau on the same day? How certain of this are you?

I suspect doing a one off day trip to Hong Kong would not be counted as a frequent visit but I doubt if it will be set in stone. I imagine that it would depend on a lot of variables, at what stage of your 30 day entry did the person do the one off trip to Hong Kong, what was the date of the return ticket when the person originally entered Macau, and things like that, I don't know if a person simply popped over to Hong Kong for a day it would automatically give another 30 days on their return. Don't forget that when the Thai person enters Hong Kong they may be asked the purpose and length of the visit and may be asked for a return ticket.

My girlfriend and I are visited Macau for five days in September, during our break we will be doing a day trip to Hong Kong, where we have visited many times without a problem, I don't encounter any problem on our return to Macau. If you don't have a definitive answer, or personal experience, by then I will let you know how we get on.
