Pheu Thai MPs not buying top posts, party says

By The Nation on Sunday

Pheu Thai Party officials yesterday denied allegations that its MPs were lobbying and paying their way to win the posts of House speaker, deputy speakers, and government ministers.

Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit dismissed the allegations, saying the party executive board had given Pheu Thai Party leader Yongyuth Wichaidit and PM-to-be Yingluck Shinawatra authority to select officials to fill those positions, including ministerial posts.

He expressed confidence that both would select qualified candidates to the posts.

Democrat Party's Phetchaburi MP Attaporn Ponlaboot responded to reports that Pheu Thai Khon Kaen MP Somsak Kiatsuranont and Pheu Thai party list MP Apiwan Wiriyachai were vying for House speaker. Each had served as deputy speaker.

But if Pheu Thai voted to nominate Apiwan as speaker, he had to restore his image and his connection with red-shirt extremists and people who were accused of burning down the country, Attaporn said.

"The House speaker's position must be politically neutral and must not support any illegal political movement or be undemocratic,'' he said.

Attaporn said Apiwan should also "carry himself more appropriately" and refrain from using rude words.

"I and other opposition MPs are ready to cross-check whoever is appointed to the House speaker post to protect the image of the House,'' he said

Oh my God!

Is there anything you cant buy in Thailand? Besides a good steak.

Coleman's Mustard is difficult to come by.

The fact that they are having to deny certain positions being 'up for auction' speaks volumes.

Maybe so, but will they have to send a percentage of their profits back up the political / liege lord foodchain as in the past? 'Oh yes, we'll install you, here's how much our cut is.'

Does anybody really belive the highly lucrative (millions to billions) pryamid approach to marketing these positions, which has been in place for decades and is well organized, has suddenly been totally abandoned?

By the law, any new pt people need a loan to get started to buy positions?

That is why they are NOT going to Dubai to visit k. Thaksin, who is NOT making the decisions.;)

You think people who are selected for top positions in any walk of life, stand in a dark corner and wait to be discovered?

I was waiting expectantly for the first "it happens everywhere" comment. Yes it does, but by back-scratching, not brown envelopes.

I guess you don't even buy them a beer for doing so.......but my point was not about the speculation of bribery of which there is no conclusive evidence,( you may of course prove me wrong by producing the same)........my point was........ if you stand quiet at the back you are unlikely to get chosen........you guys care to argue the point??????????????

The first part is more than a little presumptuous isn't it, and wrong I may add.

But you are right, standing quietly at the back is not an option.

The first part was just prompting to see if you accepted offering a gift for services rendered was ok......on the second part you are correct.....
