1 Day Out Of Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I came to thailand on 15 July on a Thai Airways ticket to leave on14 August .I apparently miscalculated the days because I got an immigration stamp at the airport to leave by 13 August.

If I change my departure date I need to pay 5000 baht to the airline and they say anyway, all prior flights close to that dateare fully booked. What is my best option ? Thanks in advance

What time is your flight out?

Just go to the Airport, you might get called over to the overstay officer, but as it is one day he might let you off, if not then only a 500baht fine and a little stamp in your passport. You can come back whenever you like.

Pay 500 baht at the airport for one day overstay.

One day overstay is not charged at airport - they may make a small Thai print in passport that has no negative results. Only if you stay more than one day would airport make the normal 500 baht per day charge.

Thanks for your responses. My plane leaves at noon, If I just go the airport and pay the 500 baht will that have any future repercussions as I am planning to get a 1 year visa later this year ?

As said, no need to pay overstay as it is only 1 day.

The stamp in your passport will not have any consequences getting a new visa or for entry into Thailand.

I find it very strange that people are advising to do illegal things (like overstaying), oke you save money and hassle but you will never know if this little overstay will be going to hunt / hurt you in the future

It is not a huge overstay and the OP has admitted a mistake, most people on here know they have overstayed by a lot, like the guy with the 300 days who posted yesterday. One day overstay is not a killer, it is the idiots who overstay for long periods, I know one who overstayed for 3 years, then got a new passport and a visa, and what happened, too lazy and no money, cause he is always on the piss, to do a visa run, on overstay again, those plonkers annoy me, and his name is not Rodney.

I have had the overstay stamp and it is not much to look at and has no real bearing on getting a new visa. The stamp also says how long you overstayed for, so if someone did take note of it, it will only show a one day overstay, so again will not cause any trouble in coming back. An extension of 7 days is also just one stamp in the passport as well as a photo and 1900 baht.

I think that Immigration should reduce the prices of extensions and increase the prices of overstay per day, so that people would be better off getting an extension than overstaying, say an Extension costs 1000baht and overstay 1000baht per day, maximum 50,000baht.

Many thanks to all of you for your prompt responses and information.

I am really inclined to go by the law and try to avoid any future bureaucratic hassle as small that would be (why would they anyway put a stamp in the passport if there was no matter at all ?), in a country with rules that keep changing all the time.I will just go for the 7 day extension and next time I shall be more careful.

Doing away with the maximum might be a good idea, but increasing the daily rate of overstay and decreasing the costs of extensions might get people to do things the proper way in the first place.

My fiance and I will be catching an early bus to Chiang Kong border crossing to Laos probably on the last day of her tourist visa stay. The bus should arrive around 2PM. If due to circumstances beyond our control, we arrive after the border closes, will the immigration at Chiang Kong charge her for a 1 day overstay or are they as lenient as the airport immigration?

an italian guy at the airport(in front of me at custom) was asked why he was late of 2 days, he says he forgot and had to pay 1000 bats before to proceed to the gates.

if you have a good reason which is not under your control, bus late, or you were sick,... and you have thai witness, I think they wont ask you to pay.

officers are already tired to stamp passports all day long, all they want is go home !

so make their life the easiest as you can.

let them deal with the situation and don't lie(still try to get a signed paper with an explaination fromThai driver if late, like " VIP bus to BKK late of 6 hours, signed: XXX)!

I have a visa that will expire soon, my flight back to Europe is 10 days after the expiration date , do I pay the overstay fee 5000 baht at the airport , or should I get a 7 day extension first 1900 baht and then pay 3 days overstay. ?

Only at the airport you will get 1 day free, basicly to assist travellers leaving on these early morning flights.

Immigration at land border will charge you, whatever the reason is.

One day overstay at airport is not charged if only one day - more than one day then all are charged. Land crossings will always collect overstay charge.

Do a visa run (to a land border) this will give you another 15 days. And a visa run (depending where you are) will cost just a bit more then the 1900 Baht

Ok so I save maybe 2500 baht doing a visa run..... Im in bkk , not sure if I can find anyone here for that price.

I realize that you can leave Thailand 24/7 (except for land border crossing which are 10/7) but I'd like to ask a kinda dumb question which probably has an obvious answer. My fiance's visa ends on Aug 21 which falls on a Sunday so can she leave Monday Aug 22? I know if that was the case then wouldn't they have stamped Aug 22 but TIT and you never know.

It will be overstay of 500 baht at land border or no charge at airport - but it is overstay still.

Just do a Google Search with the search terms Visa Run Bangkok and you will find companies that will even do it for 2000 Baht.

Or search this forum with the same search terms

Edit 10:23

Here a report for a Visa Run company in BKK (and priced around 2000 Baht)

Thanks for the help, that solves my problem .
